Need a lil help. Just got given a Gavita Pro 1650e led light. Don’t have a dimmer. Can I get a universal one or something??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Are there any places on the fixture to plug in a dimmer? If you can, post pics of the driver, and any ports or connections.
On the driver box is there a (what seems to be) a little rubber plug blocking a hole? If so, it requires a Phillips head no. 1 to turn the plastic screw that is located inside (this is the dimmer/power driver). This will increase or decrease the lighting, depending on which way you turn it.
You also have the option of raising or lowering the light. Some drivers have external dimmer pots some are made with interior pots as @LearnasUgrow mentioned.
The specifications for this fixture indicate that it can be dimmed externally. You should contact the manufacturer for guidance. A controller is available but a properly configured potentiometer may also work depending upon how they have implemented the dimming function.
As a follow up and for completeness, there are several dimming mechanisms in use by various manufacturers. Many drivers can be dimmed using any one of several of these mechanisms.
PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) - Uses the duty cycle of a square wave to set the light intensity.
0 - 10 V (0 - 11.5 for the Gravita) - An applied external voltage to the dimming circuit sets the light intensity
0 - 10 V - An internal voltage is controlled via an external potentiometer to set the light intensity. Related to this one is the use of an internal potentiometer for dimming.
Another dimming mechanism uses some digital protocol to set the light intensity. I have not seen any consumer available lights that use this mechanism but they may be out there.
Some drivers, such as Meanwell, can be dimmed with several of these mechanisms without modification. The catch is that you can only use one of them on a given driver, so you must choose.
Mr Merlin gave you all the right info. If you can post a clear pic of led driver label i can probably point you in the right direction.
Here is a link to the manufacturer’s WEB site for this fixture.
If you contact them, I am certain that they will be able to provide all of the information you need.
I didn’t realize they used a proprietary driver for these. You’ll probably be stuck reaching out to them to see if they have an independent dimmer available. My guess is they will try to sell you one of their fancy controllers.
Yeah that was my 1st move and still no response
That is disappointing…
