I know that i do need to defoliate but is it safe to do so and how much? I raised the contrast level on the image to enhance the dark areas. I brought this girl indoor to a newly made grow room and to my surprise, she’s actually doing better. I cant believe I’ve even made it this far as this is my first ever run. She’s entering week three of flowering. Bag seed, sativa, topped in veg and recently fed.
There is no need to defoliate the plant. It needs the leaves it has to manufacture the sugars needed for healthy growth and there is plenty of airflow within the plant.
Your plant will produce better with more lighting. You would get a more compact plant that produces more flower.
Looks like you have plenty of air flow through here. Let them grow.
Agree with not defoliating. Give it all the light you can. Looks a little thin for three weeks of flowering.
Thank you for that! I just learned something and now that you bring up the lighting, i have the dimmer at 30% anything above that causes leaf curl. Sorry i failed to mention, Should i then remove the milk crate from underneath the bucket and put directly on the floor and raise the dimmer? Probably dumb questions but im learning quite a lot here. Thank you again!
Ill do exactly that. Thank you!
Yeah she’s had a rough start. She was actually born April 17th. My lack of knowledge and adjusting to this South Texas heat is rough stuff and not to mention other tough factors lol I really appreciate your feedback! This was her early last month.
Just another friendly suggestion, the fabric bags are way better for the roots. I would pick up a couple of those. They provide better oxygen to the roots, and the roots air prune. Plus they’re cheap. I prefer the rain science pots, but they are a little more expensive. But they’re easy to clean, and reuse multiple times.
I just searched for those particular grow bags and I’ll admit, they seem pretty great! If i may ask you this, what do you recommend putting underneath the growbags so they dont sit on their own runoff? I did purchase a set of five earlier in my grow and was able to transplant a few into them and they do make a huge difference its just now i have them in dollar oil drain pans with woodchips and i feel it may have a negative effect…which may now explain my new ant problem lol
You don’t want your bags sitting in runoff water. I use these.
What @MidwestGuy said. That’s what I use indoors.
@Hankwi1, I would agree with no defoliation as well as hit her with more light. For extra lighting for the bottom, you can buy led light strips from Amazon (if you’re not looking to spend a lot at the moment).
This is just for example of high volume lighting, this is my plant at right at two weeks into flower with the topping and manifolding methods. I have to dim everything to 50% to take photos.
I started her on April 7th, she’s 30” wide x 28” deep x 18” tall. I too run a 5 gallon bucket as my pot size and they can produce tremendous results. Spreading her out and allowing for full light coverage of the lower nodes will help produce more. If you do start your plants outside, especially in your type of heat, I would suggest keeping it more on the northern side of the home for a cooler climate (granted not much cooler) or choose a more heat tolerant strain and this should help with results.
Those look really nice! That gives me a good example of what i need to add and correct. I greatly appreciate your feedback and everyone else that helped me out here today!
