Should I defoliate these or not?

This is my second indoor grow in a 27”x27” tent. I have two Bubba Kush, one Wedding Cake, and one Vanilla Frosting. They are growing in Sohum Living Soil in five gallon pots under an HLG 300Rspec. I trimmed lots of leaves off before I switched to 12/12 lighting around March 5th. The plants have rebounded and are now full of growth. Should I remove more leaves to allow the light to hit bud sites further down in the plant or leave alone? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Defoliate as necessary to maintain good airflow within the canopy.

Side note: buds don’t really use light. Cannabis flower is only 5% as efficient at photosynthesis as leaves are. The sugars generated by photosynthesis (anywhere on the plant) are transported by the plant where they are needed via the stem system.

I think most defoliate at 21 days into flower and again 21 days later.

@MidwestGuy is spot on.
I will add that the leaves you removed sitting on the soil are a mold risk. I would remove them.

So basically I should just cut leaves with the intent to increase more airflow? And don’t worry about exposing the small lower bud sites to light since the leaves is what dictates their development. Sorry if that sounds confusing.

For a good read google up “nebula haze defoliation”

The flowers don’t need so much, But the buds themselves in and around the flower is green leaf and the closest source to feed the flowers. Take out the big fan leaves, and tuck or cut any leaf clusters that are shading flowers.

Your plants are very similar to mine, and I posed the same question last week. Mine were very thick, so I did a major defoliation, and tied some limbs down. 5 days later it looks like this. Today is day 22 of flower. These kush plants are just bushy.
