I have a low performing Auto in a gallon pot, it has about 4 branches, 2 on each side that are really short and dont seem to be going to grow close the other tops/ of branches on this canopy, they get no light. I really want to cut them off so the plant concentrates on the rest, it needs to badly. and since those 4 branches seem useless anyway. But im not sure if this will shock the plant? and stunt it even more… any advice? i kinda don’t want her, shes taking room my other plants could be using.
Pics would help, but in general a plant that has little foliage shouldn’t be trimmed at all. The plant needs those leaves to manufacture the sugars the plant needs to be healthy.
Can you post a picture before you chop those under performing stems from your plant.
Yeah, you can take some off of those.
So I took off 5 branches, 1 branch out of 3 bottom pairs actually made it to the top, is unilateral cutting like that ok? i figured its ok. Also, what if I cut all the branches off so the plant just concentrates on the main cola? again this is an auto. thanks!
This is after cutting the worse away. im wondering if I could cut away all the branches since this is such a weak plant. perhaps just leave the main cola? would that be too much?
Yes, that would be too much. I suggest you let the spots you cut off heal up and then just let her get on with it.
In the future, you’ll learn to anticipate which of those branches you want to remove a little earlier on in the grow.
I forgot to say, depending on how you’re feeding, you might want to reduce the strength a bit on that one plant you took branches off of for the next feeding or two. With less branches and leaves she might not be able to handle the same strength nutrient solution she was before.
Thanks, Im still learning what i can get away with on autos. I been debating it for a lil while now hoping it was going to catch up… Seems like once autos go into flower some of those short branches wont make it and its time to cut. thanks again.
Looks good, the shorties you cut needed to go.
I’d run with the reset intact.
