Im considering switching to tap and i was wondering if someone thats been growing for a while could check out my water report and tell me if it’s a good idea or not
It doesnt say chloramine so no need for special filter. Not that a filter cant still be used. You will want to rid yourself of the chlorine. There are a cple ways. 1)chemically I hear vitamin c works for this but no experience there. I use this @ 0.15 ml per 5 gallons if water.
2) You can also let the tap water off gas the chloramine over a 24 hour period.
Your report does show 1.5 mg/L of nitrates ~ 6 mg/gallon if I remember my conversions. Just watch your plant for signs of nitrogen excess with your veg nutes and cut back if necessary (which I doubt will happens at that level). Let your water sit 24 hours for the THMs and chlorine off gas before use or invest in a filter.
Best to you.
PS I have always used tap water.
Ive always used tap water i fill gallon jugs once a week and leave them to sit for 24 hrs my plants have never had any issues
I’ve used that for my aquariums. Kinda stinky but works
For my plants I use filters like @HeyJB posted
This was suppossed to say CHLORINE not Chloramine. Sorry if I confused.
My tap water has 450ppm tds. I use RO.
At what level of ppm would it be negligible coming from tap?
My tap ppm is only 130
Mines like 50, but I think anything under 150 is ok. Just need to dechlorinate
Mines like 240.
Ro water has like 50ppm tds. 500ppm is considered unsafe to drink.
Tap with 200 - 300 doesn’t mean its shit. Means it likely has some carbonates / bicarbonates…which also likely means “total alkalinity” stability - calcium/lime. Unless you’re dwc/rdwc don’t sweat it or unless you have a sanitizer (chlorine chloramine Issue).
My Lake Michigan tap has 150-300 depending on season.
Yeah calcium and lime are common, also good for cannabis so that’s cool
That tap water looks fine to me with my limited knowledge of things.
You don’t really have to worry about chlorine in the water. That’s a crazy weed myth that refuses to die.
It would take amounts far higher than is allowed by law to cause any real damage to a healthy plant or microbe colony.
In fact the bulk of the chlorine molecules are filtered out by the top inch or so of soil, far above the root zone and microbe colonies. After it’s stuck filtering through the soil the microbes will actually eat it and Poof! It’s gone!
Well if your tap water is safe fir you to drink i am pretty sure it’s safe for plants.
If you have a water softener make sure you take the tap water from a spigot that is your raw water source, not softened. You don’t want to end up a soil imbalance from too much sodium.
Best to you!
