Gassing off the chlorine from tap water

Now, i know its good to gas your tap water off to expel the chlorine gas. But i don’t see any issues with my outdoor garden and i never gas the tap water off. Is cannabis more sensitive to chlorine or chloride than vegetables are?
Question is, if i am not seeing an issue with my outdoor garden by not gassing off my water will i see an issue with my indoors cannabis garden if i don’t gas off my tap water first?

I used to go through so many hoops to clean my tap when I used it, got sick of it. Just started running straight tap. Does it make a difference in the plants? Not that I’ve seen. I’d suppose it depends on how MUCH chlorine is in the water. :man_shrugging:t3:

personally, I’m never gassed off my tap water for outdoor garden or indoor weed. I’ve never had an issue.

However, the fact that it only takes 24 hours to sit to gas off I would recommend doing it just because the consequences could be devastating. (A safeguard for people like me with bad luck)

It’s funny, I just picked this up yesterday at the flea market for $10 and the lady told me there local recycling plant gives them away for free with all the attachments. It’s a rainwater catcher you might want to check your local recycling plant. All the attachments to hook up to your drain spout is in the barrel. I’m going to use it as a backup. I personally use RO water but I also have free access to it.

WOW! I am using rain water when i watch enough to make a difference. I should look into one of these. Ive seen them around before.
@Low thats what i was figuring. Its why i asked first before i drew to any final conclusions though. It always helps. I would think it would take high concentrations of the stuff.

Ultimately I did make the switch to RO to get precise numbers. But tap never failed me. :call_me_hand:t3:

Its the most feasible for me right now. So i am using it. Its not that bad here. 180 PPM 8.1 pH

I went down that rabbit hole a year and a half ago and for 6 months now I haven’t been gassing off chlorine and I can’t tell the difference either… 80ppm at 7.5ph from tap

Same here, I’m 45-60ppm from tap at about 7.1-7.2
What I’ve figured out is that low ppm of mine is due to Soft water(low calcium :disappointed:)
But that’s easily fixed.
Been curious if Hard water folk use less Cal-Mag supplements :green_heart::metal:t2:
Stopped off gassing last year sometimes after I tested my tap for chlorine and found it almost non existent on 4 different test :person_shrugging:t2::cowboy_hat_face:

I’ve never gassed off my tap, I’ll use my dehumidifier water occasionally but 95% of the time, tap is what my plants get and they don’t seem to have issues with it :love_you_gesture:

You’re the reason I got brave enough to roll on without it :facepunch::call_me_hand: you told somebody else that somewhere and I was like yep that’s a done deal not doing it anymore

Right on Brother, I started using my tap way before I checked any water quality reports and figured it hasn’t hurt anything up to this point so why change it. Glad to see it’s working for ya my friend :love_you_gesture:

Thank you for this question… About to move to the city.

From what I understand… Chlorine does evaporate… However… Chloramine… Which a lot of municipalities use now… Is Chlorine and Ammonia… Is helps the chlorine stay in the water from the water company to every tap without evaporating or diluting the chlorine.

If you have chloramine and would rather be safe…as it doesn’t evaporate like chlorine. There are chloramine filters to add to an RO system… Like the RO Buddie systems.

Also found this among many…

I let my water sit out overnight because I use a lot of mycorrhizae. Unsure if it’s necessary tbh.

@StonedCold13 I use well water out of our tap it is hard, and cal is deffinatly there we can see it on faucets shortly after cleaning them, ppms range from 288- and had high of 350 ish, ph is 7.3-7.5 most times, only ever had one plant indoor or out show cal def. Out out 30 some plants, and that was a one time deal, 5 ml of cal mag per gal cured it and never used it again.

 good to know and thanks for the reply.
We have 2 deep wells and 1 old old hand dug.
The deep wells do not work and need attention. Something i dont know about but need to learn :metal:t2::green_heart:

If they’re using Chloramine (which most treatment plants do) it cannot be evaporated. Just buy some water conditioner like what people use in their fish tanks. For $3.65 I can treat around 2700 gallons.

Remember its called “weed” for a reason. when i first started 4yrs ago I’d let the water to breathe a day or 2. gave that up by the 3rd plant. just make sure you’re in the proper Ph range. mine love 6.4

Is it ok to use the dehumidifier water? Ive been saving mine.
My Tap water is almost 200 PPM but after i gas it off it hits a steady 180. Do i need to use cal mag at all?
@DoneDeal @Low @StonedCold13 @Bigcbud and everyone else.
I am trying to get this straight …

If your dehumidifier water is clean, it should be fine. When I intend on using water collected from one I’ll spritz some peroxide into the dehumidifier water reservoir on occasion as a preventative measure. If you are running jacks, no cal mag. I haven’t used cal mag since I was in fox farm. To be honest with you, I think the use of cal mag is wildly over used to “fix” problems that start at the root zone. Like pH.

If you add a tablespoon of 3% peroxide to 5 gallons of tap water it will bind to chlorine and chloramine and gas off within minutes. Been doing this for years.
