Combining Super soil and Coco Loco

I have a bag of coco loco and one of super soil/living soil. I had read somewhere about combining them or layering them. Now I need to pot a seedling and am not sure how to mix these. Previously I have been using organic composted soil. Think I need a better medium.Recommendations?

I can’t give specific recommendations on Super Soil and Coco Loco. But I do want to mention that Coco Loco isn’t pure Coco Coir. It’s approximately 50-60% Coco mixed with soil. I use a 50/50 mixture of FF OF and FF Coco Loco, generally it allows me to veg 4-6 weeks without nutrients. Just curious what made you think about mixing them.

BTW Welcome to ILGM forum :+1:

Welcome! If it’s your first grow, I would go with one or the other, that way you have a better idea of how much of what is still in the medium overtime. FF mediums are already pretty loaded. Just a suggestion, though, I’m positive there are growers here that can give some good mixtures for you. Good luck and happy growing!!!

Edit
Just saw the previously used organics

Still kinda thinking one or the other. Organics work best with organics.

I have heard great things about ocean forest. I was reading one night and they were recommending the Super soil and Coco Loco combination. Of course now I can’t find the article. I recall it was improved water drainage from Coco and nutrients from soil. I am a good gardener but a baby still with Cannabis.

Not my first grow–my third. So I am thinking maybe to use super soil and my regular organic one. And figure out how to use the Coco Loco for something.

I have the Coco Loco And OF and I’m looking to mix that with perlite and some Nature’s Living Soil… oh and worm casting lol… you don’t give any nutrients for the first month ish? Also do I just plant my seed into my solo cups filled with that and just worm castings around the seed? Thanks

I always soak seeds in a small glass of water until a root pops—usually 2-3 days. Then plant in a tiny pot with coco loco. Use ILGM seedling fertilizer. 2-4 weeks later, plant in the final pot. I am not super happy with my mix of Nature;s living Soil and Coco. I feel like it will do better with the Coco loco and Booster Compost mix and using ILGM’s fertilizers.

I’m growing in a mix I made which is the same as what you’re describing. Soil, peat moss, coco, and perlite. Thought I could get away with soil pH of 6.5. Growth was slow. Bought the royal gold mendo mix coco blend and it was exactly what I made already. Started feeding at 5.8-5.9 and growth took off. If you do it pH it like coco

Feed the water at the lower ph your sayin to drop the soil ph? I was reading to add cal-mag as well… I’m afraid of adding the seedling fertilizer as I’ve heard the OF is heavy already… was thinking just a blanket of casting around the planting hole… idk but I just got my seeds today and am super excited!! Lol

Yes if it’s mostly coco

Sorry it took so long to get back, with the mixture I use generally I don’t need to add any nutes. I can’t really say if you should add worm castings with this mixture. Yes, once the seeds germinate and have a tap root I put directly into soil, no other additives. I will start cal-mag after a week or 10 days.

After reading some of the other responses, I wanted to let you know I ph to 6.5 specifically with this mixture. Coco Loco is 50-60 % coco coir and the rest is aged forest products. OF is 100% aged forest products. So the % of soil vs coco is higher and I believe should be closer to 6.5 I can’t say for sure that you couldn’t go lower than 6.5

No rush my friend… thanks for the responses!! I have read several other of your posts and I feel like I’m trying to shoot for something you understand lol… ok so no worm castings at all? Even mixed with the soil? Heard so many good reviews so just curious lol… also I’m try to understand the ph as well… I do understand it’s not pure coco so maybe slightly higher I agree… but why is ph so high like 6.5… I thought I read they like to be 5.8 to 6.2 somewhere?

5.8 - 6.00 is acceptable for Coco or Soil-less applications. For soil 6.5 is optimal, 6.3 - 6.8 is acceptable. When I first started using Coco Loco I tried to determine what it should be PHed at. After seeing conflicting info I called Foxfarms, the rep said they originally recommended phing the same as soil. But had revised recommendation down to 6.0 But I figure that with the mixture of OF and Coco Loco being probably about 75% soil, that 6.5 would be best. You may very well be able to go as low as 6.2 without a problem. I have always PHed water going in at 6.5 and haven’t seen any issues.

Here’s a chart showing where various nutrients and elements are available for uptake in soil. 6.5 is right in the middle of all elements.

That chart helped me understand… thank you so much for all of your help and input… makes a lot of sense! Got the coco loco in just waiting for my OF now.
