Yes Ft Knox is in Kentucky. I loved that we got to run the obstacle course there as the movie Stripes was filmed there. Pretty cool fun fact. We had a guy that nearly crushed his nutts when he fell onto the telephone pole.

Those urinalysis tests were a deal breaker for sure. I was born of hoodlum genes, raised by hoodlums, step above motorcycle enthusiasts shall we say… Scottish… Tried drinking Europe/Asia dry twice… I mean full effort. Ryan air from Germany to Scotland weekend benders. Glasgow is a alcoholics pleasure dome. Only thing I could use was shrooms or liquid Lucy… So, bout 35 yrs No cannabis except maybe 6 or 7 times…

Ya. Rooftops in the desert are cold at Sunrise. Even in the summer. Freeze dried instant coffee mixed with a double dip of Copenhagen! And a hit off the Tear gas… Breakfast of a Chemical Soldier. Had gooks in the wire so couldn’t sleep anyway. Rest with one eye open.

we were close to Middlesboro in ky. 1979 we got sent to ft riley from ft clayton

We didn’t get much sleep. We wasn’t in the Rear with the Gear MOS. And when we did our rotation at NTC Ft Irwin man those mountains got real cold as soon as the sunset. And have those crappy sleeping bags that didn’t keep you warm. Did the rotation for March. Hot as hell during the day and cold at night.

I was born and raised army my dad retired a year after I was 20. I thought everyone dad wore green. the only time we didn’t live on the base was after the second time my dad went to Vietnam. so we would have a place to live if he didn’t come back. I miss the helicopters I miss hearing cadence I miss the security of living on base. I miss moving every 15 min

I was an OC @ JRTC. NTC is worse! I can neither confirm or deny that I was there… But that looks like me on the right…

Skittish Toons, real Skittish It’s Skittish in here…

I did Army ROTC in High School. I made Cadet Captain in 2 years and was only in it for 2 1/2 years since the HS I was at didn’t have it and where we moved 2 States over did. Our HS has a Rifle Range. I was the S-4 my Senior year. Pathfinder, Color Guard and also Honor Guard. I was very active. Plus I had the keys to the Armory with access to a bunch of rifles and ammo.:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

Fired the M-16A1 when I was a Junior. Now that was cool.

I tried to enlist after high school. took my test and watched my dad go APE SHII. wasn’t going to happen. old school army didn’t want women in service

I did what the Army told me to do. And liked it. Even if it was mandatory FUN.

I went to basic in 1981. It’s a way different world these days. Drill sergeants themselves did stuff to us, and had us do things to others that just wouldn’t fly these days.

R U Kidding me? These folks now get a stress card… A flippn stress card. 12/27/82. Fort Jackson A/1/1 Tank Hill… More hands on approach indeed back then. Might have crossed paths @ Sam Houston. March 83. AIT C/3/3. Old quads. Gone now. Round Pool on the hill by the snackbar n small PX, Gone. Good times!

I left AIT in Dec 1981, though I did do a short assignment at Audie Murphy VA there in San Antonio.

I did my basic on Tank Hill too. I don’t remember what company I was in and so on, but we were in the old WWII barracks up near the top (straight across from the path to the rifle ranges.)
