Hello to all,
I have 5 x Northern Lights feminised plants growing(outdoors). They are 4 weeks old. I have also a sativa from last year and at 4 wks I can see already it has little bananas at one leaf petiole, bummer.
However, last year I separated a hermie, let it grow to maturity, then used it for edibles. It also was not a bad smoke, not strong but nevertheless.
So my question is: Can the feminised NL seeds purchased from ilgm become pollinated by a stray hermie/male in my grow area? Or does feminised mean, the plant will grow to produce bud regardless of the presence of a male plant in the grow?
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I have been reading so much, my head hurts trying to find an answer to this question.
I look forward to any reply’s.
Yes it can. This is why it’s important to verify and seperate the males.
Feminized seeds only give you a certain guarantee that the plant will be female. It can still be pollinated by a male in the area.
Hope that clears things up. @Brandy
Hi MattyBear,
No mate, I live off the main road. The nearest street light is 200 metres away, and there are trees & sheds that block any filtered light. The Lebanese sativa crop from last year came from bag seed. Approx 1 in 5 turned out to be hermies. This year my grow is all ilgm feminised & 1 x autoflower(AK 47) I will post some pic’s… Our outside grow period in Tas’ is very short considering. Even though spring starts in Sept it’s still cold/winter conditions thru till Dec’ when it begins to warm up…I love growing and work hard/reading & research so I can obtain mucho’ bud…
@Covertgrower hit it on the head
Yes a feminized plant can get pollinated
Being feminized means it will start out as a female
Stress and other factors light light at the wrong time can cause them to hermi as @MattyBear was pointing out
also outdoors pollen can travel miles so if there’s another grower in the area that has males their plants can pollenate yours
If you have a male and get pollen on your clothes you can pollenate the females also
Best to cull all males and hermies as soon as you discover them imho unless you plan on breading
Hope that help
To Covertgrower,
Thanks for the reply. I suspected as much but wanted verification. I will separate the bugger and he can be used for butter/edibles…while Im here, check out my little grow… outdoor, ilgm NL#5 & 1 x AK47 Autoflower…these babies are 4 wks & 3 days… Sorry for the green on green. These still spend the nights in my greenhouse where it stays warm. Every morning when I put them out, the leaves are all ‘praying’(cool)! i must be doing something right. Also we have wallabies that graze thru our yard at nights, they have never eaten my plants in the past but they are known to ‘experiment’ and taste whatever is available, therefore Im not taking any chances. Also Australia is still in the dark ages when it comes to recreational marijuana. We are years away from that legislation. Hell, medical cannabis still has the medical communities heads spinning with confusion. Even if there are proactive Doctors who support medical cannabis, there are no dispensaries. Australia has really missed the boat…damm, dont get me started…
To Countryboyjvd1971,
I appreciate the assistance. It helps to speak to experienced hands. I have an experienced grower friend, but he lives in the city. Because marijuana use/grow/recreational etc is illegal, I/we try not speak on the phone about our grows and or use email. Joining the ilgm forum has increased my grow knowledge. But, I am still paranoid…authorities can access any meta data with a warrant. Drug searches already have the highest number of warrant requests(sigh) and they are saying police are changing the way they investigate. Lazy police use meta data first, then come a callin…not to mention searches of meta data without a warrant…off the subject here, but you get the idea. Reading about growing is helpful, but its nothing like having a/some wise heads to talk to…Regards
