Can I use a plastic container to dry in

I am wondering if I can use a plastic tote in the same fashion as the way people make dry boxes out of moving boxes. what should I do as far as put a lid on it, drill holes around it for airflow, I have a spot on the other side of the wall of my grow room and humidity has been staying around 60 but the AC is right next to the area and I feel like the AC is blowing a little too hard around the drying bud so thats why I’m trying to see if I can just have the drying Bud dangling inside the tote so the AC isn’t beating it down. Thanks

Are you thinking a big tote on its end, kind of like a hanging closet?

@Truetopath well I was thinking about that way as well but I feel like if I have it standing up it’s going to be getting a lot of wind inside of the tote. I was really thinking about just having it the regular way and maybe put a cover on half of the top and maybe set the tote on top of something so it can breathe underneath and maybe cut a hole on the bottom or the top that’s what I’m trying to figure out right now. What is your thoughts on this

The darkness sure but I’d worry about humidity and lack of air flow. I’m having trouble visualizing how you’re going to set it up

@Truetopath well there is no direct light where it’s going to be at, just ambient light from the next room but I don’t think it’s enough to mess the trichomes up. Guess I’ll take some pictures when I get home and show you what I’m trying to say

Sounds good!

@Truetopath see the humidity in this corner stays between 50 and 60 but if I go on the wall across from the AC the humidity goes crazy. But this is the idea I’m trying to express

@Truetopath do you see the bud that I have sticking out the sheetrock, I put that there yesterday and it already feels like it will be dry by tomorrow but I don’t get it because the humidity is 60 right here so I’m figuring it is the air movement from the AC so I figured if I blocked it with the tote or something I might achieve my goal to get a slow dry

60/60 are the typ targets with minimal airflow. A single small bud will dry quicker in the same enviro as several buds/branches etc…

I decided to change how I dry and I do not recommend it.
I chop and wash and hang for 4 hours with slight air movement. Once there is no more dripping, I place in a shoebox in my closet which is about 55ºF and 50-60% RH. Going for a super slow dry, I have never made it past 10 days.
No mold, all chloro gone and all that is left is BudStank. I have only dried like this on my last 2 chops but I am liking it and can get past 10 days and then into Jars for the cure. I have and have used Groves but trying something New and Ol Skool. A mashup if you will. The wife said using this method produces a really smooth smoke.

When I dried I used my small tent 2x4 and hang whole plants until I can’t fit anymore then I will take large branches. Yes keeping the 60 60 formula is what I did. I used my fan set on low like two or three, my fan was outside the tent pulling from one side of the tent at the top and I opened the vent on the opposite side at the bottom. I used a cheap Wi-Fi camera looking at my temperature and humidity gauge so I could keep an eye on it and then if needed I could turn on or off the Wi-Fi humidifier or the Wi-Fi portable AC. Like above my longest drive time I was able to get was 10 days. Then mine went into terp bags with hydrometers so I can keep an eye on them and burp as needed

I wouldn’t worry about light hitting the drying plants. I’ve dried plants in my grow room without issue other than slightly faster dry times than the ones in my dedicated dry tent. You can dry in the tote. You’ll want a humidity monitor in there because the wet buds will raise the humidity quite a bit in that small of a space.

I agree with @BobbyDigital. Worst case scenario you have to relocate to finish the dry. Just be vigilant :call_me_hand:t2:

@DaveySprocket I thought terp bags didn’t need to be burped

If the weed goes in there too early as mine did it will need to be burped. I’d rather do it that way than put it in a little too dry. After about a day and a half it seems to sweat and the humidity goes up. Those bags did not leak any smell but I think the Grove bags did. Unless I just didn’t get one nailed down good enough

@DaveySprocket oh you were talking about something different than a Grove bag?

The first ones I bought online were from Amazon and don’t say grove on the bag it says terploc and they are shiny black with green, and then I decided to try the ones that say Grove bag on them and they are flat black and thinner. Not sure if Grove makes the terploc bag or not.
I prefer the first ones I bought as they are thicker and cheaper

@DaveySprocket yeah I think I just bought both of them, I have the ones with the window in it and the other ones are plain black

Yeah the shiny thicker black ones have more windows. The flat black ones have one window
