I just started 3 autos in 5 gallon fabric pots. My soil is a mix of roots organic original and purple cow organic with some perlite mixed in. Both soils claim seed to harvest with no nutes.
True or not true? Will I still need to hit them with nutes, and if so, when?
Good question. I can’t answer that, but I’d be anxious to see what others think. I’ve read SoHum soil is also start to finish, although it is also expensive.
I looked at that as well, then someone mentioned that roots organic was much better.
I am in Sohum now and have given nutes because of a few problems I made. Overwatered, light stress…
Not sure on your soil. I use Fox Farm and go start to finish with it, Only paying attention to PH. Maybe I miss on bigger yields?? But it’s simpler for me.
Pretty similar here. I use happy frog amended with fox farm fruit and flower 4-9-3, then top dress with the 4-9-3 once during flower. That’s basically it. I did receive a free sample of fish sh!t, and recharge I’m trying out this time as well.
I think that if you had a big enough pot and stacked your soils in it and possibly had to add some soil at some point or top dress then i think it could be possible but maybe more of a pain than giving them some bloom nutes
My assumption is no, the 5 gallon pots will help better than 3 or 1 gallon but suspect you’ll need nutrients around flowering time or at least 2-3 weeks in ![]()
I wouldnt plan on it. Supersoils claim as much but theyre well planned out and can potentially burn your plants if not stacked properly. And as @OGIncognito mentioned its more to do with your pot size.
Yep. Steer clear of soils that claim “Feeds for x months.” These soils have time release nitrogen that nukes you plant with nitrogen and submarines your pH every time you water.
Around week 6 of flower your TDS meter will tell the facts, holler back with the answer so we will know next time.
You will need at least a 10 gal pot or larger to carry you to harvest. 5 gal pots only last 4 to 6 weeks depending on strain. I use Coast of Maine stonington blend and have carried 1 auto in a 10 gal start to finish.
Roots original claims seed to harvest with no nutrients? I’ve never seen that, and have been buying for quite some time and never experienced it either. I can’t speak on the purple cow, but roots original should be something that covers plants +/- 4 weeks in medicore sized pot.
@dbrn32 I use Roots Organics… I transplant from rapid rooter, solo cup, gallon plastic, to 7 gallon fabric… I don’t feed them for… Like you said 4 weeks +/-.
I think it’s the most flexible and consistent bagged soil I’ve purchased, but not something anyone should expect to feed to harvest.
Purple Cow would prob carry you FT in a 10 Gal or larger pot.
