Can I leave the lights on all the time?

A customer has a question and I hope we can get some opinions on it, thanks

“I was just reading some of ILGM grow tips and I’m starting some seedlings in my window seal, it gets Heat and direct sunlight until just after lunch I keep the light on him until I go to bed at midnight and then it turned on again at 6 in the morning. Can I leave this light on all the time? Can I have success with this routine at least until I get ready to flower”

You can run lights 24 hours if you like and I do early on but many prefer an 18/6 cycle to allow the plant time to rest. It’s your choice, really.

Yes I’ve read a little darkness does it good.

I run 24 for about the first 3 weeks. After I transplant I keep them under T5 at 24 for a couple of days then i move to my led tent and run 20 on 4 off

You can, but in my opinion it’s better to have a dark period. Forget that having a dark period will save on electric costs… although that’s certainly a bonus. The thing to think about is, we all need a break ourselves. We work better and are more productive after resting. Plants are no different. Give them a break and in the end I think you’ll be happy with the results. I personally use an 18/6 light schedule, but I know some use a 20/4 schedule. I say start with 18/6 and if you’re not getting good growth, then switch to 20/4. Basically, let the plant tell you how much light it needs.

Happy growing!

Agree fully with growman plant needs rest,
Do this if you are not convinced
Take measurement of leaves across your plant, and how tall, do this for a couple more days of your 24-0 schedule
Then change the lights to 18-6
Take measurements in the morning right after lights come on.
Share your findings.
