Build a soil 3.0 amending used soil

Build a soil states 1-2 cups per cubic foot so I was going to use a 1/4 cup for a 5 gallon. How long do I need to wait to grow in the newly amended soil to not let it be too hot? Also do I need to keep the soil wet while waiting (if I have to) for the craft blend to break down.

I would actually bump up your mix from a 1/4 cup. Here is the conversion table. I would go to 3/4 maybe even a cup.
