BuildaSoil craft blend

Currently have 30 gallon pots with perlite, sphagnum and a coco/compost mix. I wanted to go with living soil but not really break the bank. I currently have a vermicompost so I threw about 30 red wrigglers into the pots.

My question is before I start growing in this can I add craft blend into the soil?? I’ve read the worms eat it but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t making the soil too hot by adding this. If it is possible how much should I be adding??

@Bigcbud Hi there. BAS loyal to the soil. I hope I answer your question…

I use CB year round in my soil. I feed CB before the season starts-and during the season also. But I am already knee-deep in living soil. So I’m on maintenance, rather than starting from scratch. Is it too hot? I don’t believe so. But follow guidelines on label-Jeremy from BAS never steered me wrong!
I will tag you on my grow journal-I use primarily BAS products. Happy Growing! :+1::facepunch::pray:

Hey @Slug_Life thanks for the response, starting to feel better with my CB purchase the more I read about it.

I have somewhat living soil going already but no seed placed into it. I was just curious if I could mix a certain amount of CB in the soil prior or would that be overkill? I do have living worms in it so I’m sure they will eat a little of that as well.

Living soil is a great approach for many container plants. Amendments like craft blend and worm castings release nutrients slowly as microbes and worms break them down, so you don’t need a huge amount at once. Starting with a modest top dress and letting the biology do its work helps avoid overly hot soil. It’s always wise to follow the manufacturer’s recommended rates and observe how your plants respond. Good luck with your living soil experiment!
