I’m posting here about my frustration with bugs. My last 2 grows had spider mites. The northern lights #5 grow decimated the crop no matter what I did. I do grow in a bedroom inside a 5x5 tent. And I do thoroughly clean the tent after each grow. I also try to keep the lung room clean and vacuumed. I was growing in coco-loco soil the past 4 grows and decided to switch to coco coir with perlite, roots organic version. Hoping this would help eliminate my bug problems. I do use neem oil and DE around the tent and room with neem oil for the plants. This last grow was going great then I started seeing what I thought were fungus gnats. Which possibly realized could be root aphids. I’ve been working my regular job 70-80+ hours a week but this morning I noticed these critters under the leaves.
Any help identifying these. Any help being bug free or is it just the battle that we have to face under all different circumstances in the grow. Or am I just doing things wrong and need to tighten up the ship.
I would try Capt. Jack’s Deadbug. It is safe to use during the entire grow cycle. Neem oil should not be used on flowering plants.
Ok I’ll check it out. How do you apply capt jacks? Also I don’t use neem oil on the plants during flower but did try a soil drench with it. My plant this round are very healthy and at the end stretch. Just need a week or 2 for 2 of them and when I seen the bugs this morning I did chop the Sherb cream pie which was ready. It was polluted the most with the critters. The other 3 plants not so bad.
Aphids. I use Beauveria Bassiana to eradicate.
Omg you got me scared now. I’ve been having fungus gnats for the longest, I’m hoping that’s all it is but now I’m seeing this you have me wondering
Thank you
Non of these aphids were on my leaves last week or less so they just recently appeared. I have also dusted the entire top of the pot with a thick layer of DE. And I’ve been bottom feeding for a week or 2 to try and dry out the top of the coco. Since I hear a lot about overwatering or wetness as a cause to certain bugs. This morning I lifted the fabric pots thinking they were possibly damp underneath and did see a couple movers under the one pot.
How is it applied, is it safe can I use any stage of growth?
Do you have any idea how they ended up in your grow room
Ouch. That’s gonna fuq pH UP. It’s calcium silicate
Foliar application and the host fungi kills them and 200+ other species. Can be used any stage.
Check eBay for repackage
I have no idea how they got there it’s a second story room in the house and only designated as a grow room. I don’t even pot the plants there. I don’t know if they were in the bag of coco or what?? That’s why I went to coco because I thought I was getting spider mites previous from the soil I purchased at the grow shop. Unless they were in the clones but I think I would have seen them sooner.
No a pound is cool to have on hand. Don’t plan on stopping the grows. I’ll. Probably have to treat then remove top layer of coco/DE to get back to fertigate/runoff to waste. Right now I just fill the pan and allow the roots to absorb from the bottom of the fabric pot. @budbrother you are awesome and I sooo much appreciate you. Thank you. Like a real brother!
It won’t affect the buds?
You’ll need to do a bud wash anytime you treat them with anything, but Deadbug is great and kills pests well, I spray to complete drench every 3 days for 2 weeks, get them all.
Nope @kfeather Rated food safe and spores die in 24 hrs. Since BB is a living organism, it does not leave any harmful residues on the plants, ensuring a clean and pure end product. You could always bud wash if worried and don’t already.
I’ve always wondered if a few hours at say 110°f would actually kill them and not hurt the plants ![]()
AI says "Aphid Temperature Tolerance
Ideal range: Aphids thrive between 65°F–80°F (18°C–27°C).
Reproduction stops: Around 85°F (29°C), most species’ reproduction slows or stops.
Lethal range: Sustained temps above 95°F–100°F (35°C–38°C) will start killing them, especially if humidity is low.
Instant kill range: Around 110°F (43°C) and up for more than 10–15 minutes usually kills aphids and their eggs — but also risks serious plant stress or death."
I use Growers ally trifecta. Fungal/insecticide/miticide. Usable up to harvest DAY. A sample is only 10 bux and makes a gallon. I can verify this stuff works great. Slays gnats/mites. Great for high humidity areas for molds. I use as a preventative all during grow. Every couple of weeks. If already infested this will wipe them out. A good rinse will be needed for you with some peroxide and water. Hope that helps. Neem is not my go to anymore. Was back in the day but maintenance products have come a long way.
Let’s try it, but will it damage the tricomes. Really intrigued.
Thank you again @Budbrother. Do you know how long 1lb will last? It cost about $100. I usually am growing anywhere from 4-6 plants. Technically I hope it lasts forever and I don’t get anymore aphids in the future but I’m guessing it can help with prevention also.
