New grower here. I have aphids in my grow tent. I’ve tried a spray i got from a grow store. They just keep coming back. I’ve searched and seen some different ways but just would like to hear from you guys. Please any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum.
A lot of growers will use Capt. Jack’s Deadbug for treating for critters. It is safe to use during flowering.
Yup. Cap’n jacks dead bug. over, under. all around spray couple times a day for a few days, then lower until pests r gone
Aphids will have you chasing your tail for sure.
I will tell you want I do…
Mosquito bits for the top of your soil…
I also use Diatomaceous Earth for the soil and stem of the plant. The I rotate between the two products pictured below every three days. I stay on this schedule for six weeks and have been very successful eradicating them.
Yes on the Captain Jacks. No on the multiple times a day.
I would use Safer brand Garden Soap.
Try spraying the entire plant just before the lights turn off. About 20% on the top of the leafs and 80% on the underside. Aphids tend to hang out where its kinda hard to see. Now spray the entire room. Top to bottom. Side walls, floors, grow bags, light cover, fans… everything.
Do this for three days. Domt skip a day. Aphida reproduce by themself. You only need one. After the firat spray the eggs left will hatch. This is where the second and third sprays come into effect.
After the 3rd day really look for Aphods in the rooms. Even if you dont see any spray again in 7 days. After that treat the plants with a very light mix about every 2-3 weeks. Just to play it safe.
We use this tactic at home and on the farm. It has worked great for use.
Happy growing…
Thank you all so much!!
Lady beetles will get rid of them or white oil
Ladybugs will work but they sell them by the thousands. Way too many for a tent 99% of them will starve right away and you’ll have a bunch of dead ladybugs to clean up.
Sorry to hear about your aphids, we just fought them through a grow. I will share what I’ve learned by trial and by speaking with tech support at general hydroponics and entomologist at the zoo in st louis.
First, Cap’n jacks ded bug does not kill aphids.
Second,Need oil will kill them but does so by suffocation not poisoning and not supposed to use need in flowering plaants. Aphids don’t eat what we spray they are sap suckers so think in terms of suffocation not poisoning.
We were able to keep them from destroying the plants by daily squishing them as found on the stalks. And spraying with Dr brommers oil soap. I was told this is safe but may flavor the weed unfavorably. Ladybugs will do the job and they sell houses for them and if you put in the food they like but not too much then they will do the job on aphids and not starve when aphids are gone. We just chopped the plants and washed the buds so we will see about flavor issues. University of California at Davis he’s a lot of info. My experience in the military taught me " know your enemy" the best defense prevention. I think our problem started with some clones we were gifted. So quarantine new plants, while I’m writing this book I’ll say watch out for bagged soilsespecially foxfarms it’s loaded with fungus gnats we learned that the hard way. Hope some of this is helpful. Welcome to the forum.
Spray at lights off if nobody mentioned it. It can burn your leaves if sprayed during lights on.
@Allinherhead that was a great post. I wonder if diatomaceous earth would work on aphids. I haven’t had deal with them since the 90s I can’t remember what we used back then
We used it for several days and helped some but mostly had a huge mess to clean up. I didn’t add earlier that aphids have about 12 babies a day and babies are born pregnant and don’t need a mate. They squish really easy so spending some time every morning squishing does the most good. Also as their numbers grow and they get crowded many will grow wings to fly away and infest other areas. This was always the last room we went into and when finished we rubbed each other down to make sure no Hitchhiker’s. ( probably didn’t work, don’t tell the wife, the rubbing was fun )
I release 1500 ladybugs every year into my greenhouses and garden as a preventative measure and my daughter loves Lady bugs. I didn’t know they sell ladybug houses, don’t tell my daughter we have enough pets here already. 3 dogs 5 cats 5 chickens a rooster 7 ducks and a rabbit.
Wow we almost got you beat. 14 hens, 1 rooster 9 Guineas and 9 cats, do you want some more cats, I would trade 5 cats for a dog prefer blue healer, dogo argentino or cane Corso.
My Boston terrier is in heat and I have her boyfriend here, hopefully we get some puppies. Don’t need more cats. If you want a mean ass rooster I got one for you. My chickens are free range, he rules the yard and attacks anyone who gets near his hens. Sometimes in the morning they are on my front porch and my daughter can’t get past him to go to school. I have to chase him off with a rake.
I know you do greenhouse grows, as I do as well, and have bug issues as well. Going to be gardening more than just cannabis this year. This will be all around greenhouses this coming year as the aphids were the worse they have ever been last year. I usually plant marigolds and they help, but I’m going all out next year
I had a Road Island Red that I had to get rid of cuz he was a monster, made some pretty good soup. Good luck with the pups. I already have 2 dogs, down to 3 chickens, 2 ducks. No cats wife is highly allergic.
I’ll be getting a couple dogs that will eat coyotes and foxes bobcats mountain lions and thieves. The blue heelers can’t do this but they’re cool. Our rooster is friendly, he will sit next to us and pick off weed seeds from pants. He tried to be mean when he was young and my wife would grab him each time and hold him backwards like a football after a few goes at this he was never aggressive to people again although the Amazon and us still afraid of him and his 4 inch spurs.
I grow marigolds, basil, lavender and
inoculated clover. My biggest bug problem was from caterpillars
My rooster, if you catch him and hold him he’s cool but you have to catch him when he’s eating. If you’re within 20ft of him don’t turn your back, he’s fast.
