Branch removal opinions please

Hey y’all. I wanted opinions on whether I should cut these branches. GG4 photo week 5 flowering indoor soil
The stretch to the light is on and she’s a bit lopsided but the backsides are catching up. I think the sides are smaller because they are not close to the reflective areas and my light is an hlg Diablo 200 which I think is kind of small for how big she’s supposed to be. How do we feel about cutting these branches off? They’re actually kind of being covered unless I tuck leaves constantly every day.

No way. Check this out. Move your pot to the left. Then take another side view pic.

Now they’re all about the same height and the canopy is more even. It’s like you’ve done this before

Re-measure your light and everything. If you need to, you can also take the corners of your trellis net and raise or lower them for another way to make a quick adjustment.

You could cut a ton of those fan leaves out of there and get more light to them too!
Looks like time for a defoliation!

Glad you said that. So I read another post where folks went back and forth about leaves being the fuel for the flowers and whether to cut them. I remove anything with any sort of discoloration or damage. What’s your opinion on cutting this stuff. Also, what is larf?

Yes, “larf” is the stuff you circled. I like to remove it prior to / first week of flower. At this point, I’d probably leave it, it’ll get you a couple grams for the edibles pile.

Good to know for next grow thank you!

I did end up cutting one lower small branch off because it was just never going to see the light. I saw this. Is that a pair of balls or whatever? :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: :face_with_monocle: :sob:

Nothing to worry about. That’s a female calyx, one will form at the base of every bud node.

Whew ok. I think sometimes the info overload gets to me. I read GG4s can be known to easily go hermie if stressed. :woman_shrugging:

I remove the lower 1/3 of the branches about a week or two prior to flower and defloiate throughout tue flower stage removing any fan leaves that block light to prime bud sites. Like @CurrDogg420 said. I believe it’s too late in tue game to remove any branches. At this stage you don’t want to stress the girl out any harder than needed. Use tue larf to make Rosin or butter or whatever else you can do to use it! Hope this helps! Plants look good!! Great work!!

Me personally i would get rid of that larf and i would clean up that bottom part of ur plant

I agree with @Aussie_autos on cleaning the bottom up. Still at a good time in flower to possibly benefit from the extra food. Let everything getting good light have what’s coming out of the soil. The larf will be pretty airy and probably still have clear trichomes for the most part at harvest. Still good for an edible trim bag too like mentioned above @CurrDogg420

I wouldn’t cut any branches off unless smaller in middle or bottom of plant for sure. I’ve cut some off one plant before one was a descent branch that got broke. Ot cut. I think being so far.into flower the break stressed that branch out too much and cause that branch only to hermied and shoot banners from it. It was caught right at the end of flowering but still was enough stress to cause it to Hermie. I’d be leery on taking too many branches off the plant but to defol u can strip off any bigger leaves that cover a bud site or point inward basically. Leave all the leaves on the sides that don’t harm anything or cover It tho. More leaves on more work it can do at once leaves are like the motor of the plant the more leaves the more horsepower the less leaves less ho. If u strip all the leaves it’s like a dead plant won’t do nuffin like a car without a motor lol. Leaves absorb the energy then send everything to root ball to be converted and feed the plant. Be leery on what u take in flower is all. If u chose to do anything in veg to have it prepped for flower would be best option. Just give urself recovery time before u flip so if u defol today wait 2 to 4 days atleast before u flip to flower let it recover from the defol. This way it won’t interfere trying to fix one wound while the plant should be on the part of making bud sites but instead it’ll be recovering from the defol and lollipop of u choose this is gonna be fun. Don’t be scared s it’s not what u think as these pla TS are pretty tough once the surpass the one week old mark from seed. If u drop a seed and make the first week u r pretty much a set to grow that plant I’m gonna follow along for the ride here as I love to watch others plants grow. Welcome lots here to help ya out along the way
