Back for more pruning/cutting advice

Here she is now, under 300w in 3x3 all by herself and will remain for flower. Topped about a week ago with some very light defoliation and LST.

Opinions on removing branches, fan leaves etc very much welcome and needed

What is your goal in defoliating. ?
Are you trying for a particular growing style and just want a few main stems?
Defoliating will diminish the plants ability to produce the food it needs to grow so you dont want to do it thinking it will grow better or bigger.

I had similar thoughts to @Spiney_norman. I would be happy to let it ride, if it were mine.

In regards to defol i mean the small inner growths and tiny fan leaves inside not getting any light, didnt do to many of them either as I wanted to see how she bounced back from it.

I suppose the goal right now (i assume) is to get as many of the lower branches up to the canopy as possible before flipping to flower and overall goal is quantity.

My reason for asking about defoliating was because ive got some big fan leaves blocking some what would be nice bud sites. I have been tucking them but theyll find their way back out. But happy to not cut anything.

Then ive seen people talk about removing lower growth on branches, or even full branches all together, to redirect energy to major budsites to improve overall yield. So im just curious as to how those in the know would go about my plant as it is now.

Very happy to let it ride also if it looks optimal

My practice may be a bit different then many really great growers.

I don’t remove leaves for the most part. Any “suckers” or new branches that form get removed it I don’t think they will get to the net level. Those lower and inner leaves don’t do much, but every little bit of leaf area helps the plant produce. When a leaf is no longer productive, it will yellow and drop off on its own.

The only energy source is the light. The larger leaves will produce the food and the plant will move it to where it needs it. Tucking is the best strategy and after you flip it to 12/12 you can manipulate it more as it stretches. Some of the lowest branches will stay small no matter what. I normally remove the two lowest stems at some point as a matter of routine.
In your case you could remove a few leaves without harming the health of the plant if you want better light penetration. Mobile nutrients will get to the shaded stems either way but more light wont hurt. Your plant is just the size I like to see when I flip to flowering. The branches will stretch out a lot from then and defoliating becomes unnecessary.

Really? Today is day 50 from sprout. She’s a photo. I want a big yield and i have noticed that if she doubles in size im gonna have some trouble with touching the lights.

But i honestly thought i was still weeks away. I would absolutely melt if i got 200. But id be happy with 100+.

Noob aspirations n all haha

I flip when they are 55 to 60 days from sprout. 10 gallon fabric with Roots Organic Original soil and RO dry nutrients. Each plant is grown in a 35" diameter SCROG.

My normal yield is about 16 zips (~1 lb), dried and cured.

You are right on track so long as you keep your environment under control.

I have a 3x4 tent and usually grow 2 or 4 plants. This run is 4. So that size is perfect for 4 plants. If It was just 1 or 2 I would grow longer before flipping. Looks like you have good experience with your space so trust your process.

Thankfully i think thats the one thing that should be all good, blessed with great conditions to be honest.

So i have in a 5.8 gal pot would that change your opinion on how long to wait before flip? Shes only in there about 3 days, made it to that size in a 6.5 litre pot.

Ive been saying this is the best plant ive worked with so i wanted to just isolate it and see whats up.

See the reply above i feel this could be a potential big girl, made it to this size in a 6.5 litre

And thanks gents, full of good news :shamrock:

I would give it a week to settle into the new pot, then flip. The pot size and light intensity are two significant factors (beyond genetics and veg time) that will determine the final plant size and yields.

Ok nice, and the excitement builds!
