Blurple Buyer’s Support Group

If you have any other social media, you might be able to track someone down there.

There’s actually a new social media app called CannaBuzz. Dumb name, I know. But with everyone getting locked down on IG, someone thought it would be good to start a cannabis focused social platform.

Blurples are good for seedlings, I’ll give them that. But there’s no way to dim. That’s why I went with the HLG 135 BSpec to Veg my 3x3. It’s perfect.

I’m going to have a seedling area, I’m either getting another 135 or I may go with some 24in Hortilux fluorescents.

Im waiting for my new 135 V2 Rspec this week, maybe next (im in Colombia) so i can put that chinese Roleadro to rest for now…
Will be getting another 135 Rspec later down the road, importing technology into Colombia is expensive as hell, but i know it’s worth the efforts

Lol no matter what you grow, it’s Columbian

I have been looking for years for the REAL Colombian strain, Punto Rojo, a Sativa that’s ultra rare today because it’s a slow yielder and narcs rather grow some high speed hybrid crap lately…
Last week i found about a guy who specifically only grows landraces, and happens to have few hundreds of Punto Rojo seeds, so ill be picking some soon :muscle::muscle:
As soon as i have enough light, i will try a run with some real Colombian Sativa seeds…

So did i somehow miss it @dbrn32, did you ever help that one fellow (WAY back from last year) on gutting his light and making something work in it? I thought i read all the way through this thread, lol but maybe i missed it being linked to somewhere else? Interested in options to do that also. Mine aren’t 2months old already but I can’t send them back at this point so rebuild/repurpose is right on track with what i’d do, or like to do. Feel like you may have mentioned something about the BestVA lights on mine or another thread but what are your thoughts on rebuilds ?

@TheVirginian He did! I just never moved any further. I’m sad to say I relapsed and used it to Veg.

Most of the info is in here…… or did I start another thread……

Stand by……
I guess I didn’t start a thread.

I must have tagged him in someone else’s thread. He gave me a parts list and everything.

Blurple redemption can happen. It really isn’t hard. Open up your light, snap a few pictures and tag me and dbrn32. I’d like to see what you’re working with.

It’s a BestVA 1500DC series (dual chip, not DC powered, lol). 195W. I have 2 of them and they are actually doing a FINE job vegging some GSCs right now. Just thinking/looking for future upgrade. I WAS disappointed when they arrived and i plugged them in, to see how “blurple” they were compared to pics online but I cannot knock their performance thus far. Not that my opinion won’t change on that LOL  I had done PAR note comparisons with, i think it was @PurpNGold74 when i was looking at or had just finished purchasing these lights. They aren’t as bad as the EARLIER models of (every brand blurple) lights with 3W and 5W single chip LEDs. BestVA DOES make a quantum board light (heatsink is green, you’ll end up seeing it eventually) that isn’t too much more than these “boxed” housing lights they make but they weren’t DualChip LED’s (which makes no sense as it’s a newer model/design). Wondering if those will pan out to be decent QBs or not also or if that’s the direction to look for parts for upgrading these

@TheVirginian There are so many good lights on the market. Check out the Migro YouTube channel. He reviews all kinds of lights.

Most people on here, including myself, are biased toward HLG. They’re just a great light at a good price point. But there are a lot of other lighting companies that compare.

HLG is known for their customer service.

However, I need lighting for yet another 3x3 area. I may stray from HLG. I’m tempted to go with Hortilux…, but man they’re expensive

Those Blurples will be great to Veg.

Also, parts to upgrade will end up being more than what you get out of it. That’s why I have not done it. I will do it eventually, but just for fun. It a total waste of money but I realize that going in.

There are tons of DIY lighting options, if you’re up for a small electrical project. There’s a whole thread dedicated to it.

@TheVirginian

Check it out.

Let’s talk DIY lights

I have helped a few people replace some components on factory lights. Some are a lot easier than others, you really don’t know until you can get a look at driver labels and see how factory heatsinks are placed into case.

If you want to take a look, start a new topic and tag me there. That will be easier for others to find down the road.

The electric part does not phaze me at all, it’s the stupid frame that trips me up

Migro did a vid on one and it was weak for some reason.
I have a BestVA wired wrong that wont turn completely off without cutting the power to it.

This is probably neutral and hot wire terminated in the wrong spot somewhere.

Most timers only switch one wire and it should be the hot. If hot and neutral are crossed and timer switches the neutral driver will still get voltage from the hot wire. The circuit isn’t complete with neutral open to run light at normal state, but the electronics in driver can bleed voltage to the output. Can dimly light some or all of the leds.

I have helped a handful of growers fix this. I would start by checking if the cord on light used a polarized plug. If it doesn’t flip it so prongs on plug go into opposite holes on your timer. If it is polarized, check plugs on timer itself. If still looks good, check any other plugs in the circuit. If everything there is polarized, shut off breaker for circuit you’re using, then pull out receptacle it’s plugged into, check that black wires go to gold screws and white wires go to silver screws on receptacle.

If all of that is good, its probably crossed in the light fixture. I think I seem that one time on a galaxy or Mars light. It’s usually in a non-polarized plug or receptacle nit wired properly.

I only noticed it when I plugged it in without a timer for some clones. Wall outlet could be wrong too.
Have the 2 600w bar lights and the 2 HLG 240’s you showed me how to make. Going to make a 100W± HLG for my starts and trash every other light I have. Then the Blurple-monkey will be off my back.

I must have the same thing on BOTH of my new BestVA DC1500 Series lights!!! When i go to lights out, there’s this very dim “ambient glow” still downcasting from them, illuminating the closet innards. I thought they might be still “cooling down” but i came back hours later and could still see the glow. I got them during the afternoon and in excitement, assembled the hanging apparats and plugged them and powered them. Can’t SAY honestly whether they were like that when OFF and FIRST plugged in. Too late to send back anyway now by 20 some days. They’re POUNDING out some growth on those GSCs though so i’m not doing anything with/to them until they fail or this grow is over  I have another light on the way, a qb by Barrina. Haven’t seen ANYone (who’s 'anyone in the know" we would trust) cover that light. I’ll be the guinea pig  and, well, if it turns out to be junk, we’re already a nice big foldable heatsink and possibly other parts (at least the hardware THEY used) towards making it a good one right @dbrn32 ?

Is there a switch on the light then? Could be same thing, only would be wires crossed in there or at receptacle.
