Dangit man i coughed my hit on that one… :smiley: Y’all taking those blurple monkeys hard LOL. Everything has a purpose and you may find one day those may grow the only food your family can eat due to world shortages or some kind of freak event contaminating outside soils. yeah i’m getting science fiction here but with the way mankind is hurriedly creating quicker/better ways to destroy other mankind it could be closer to science fact than we even know :wink:

Man, those are giant Sativas!

People used to grow Sativa trees here in my city, but there’s always the risk of thieves or neighbors calling the cops…

I just want some old school genetics grown by myself in my tent!
I wish I had the peace of mind to grow outdoors…

Hi, my name is Jungle, and I fell for the burple sales pitches. Here’s my story.

While I was in the the early processes of buying what I needed for my first grow, I stumbled upon a nearby CBD farm that was packing it up and auctioning off their equipment … including lots of 5 of “1200W lights” (King Plus 1200).

At auction inspection day, I went out to the farm and looked at them. They’d been used for one season, and they had ~50 of them. One of the growers was there showing people around, and he explained that each one was good for a 4x4 area or so, but they need to be very close to the plants. In retrospect, this might be one of the reasons they were going out of business.

In any case, I found the identical light on Bezos’ site for $108 ea. So I bid $200 for a lot of 5 lights, figuring I might get lucky. Turns out I did get lucky – each lot of those lights sold for >$450 (plus 15% buyers premium, they paid more than they were available for new
Still clueless, I bought two of the lights on Amazon. Luckily, I had a clone fall into my lap and I started growing with one of the two lights. At some point I started asking questions … and @Myfriendis410 was kind to me, explaining

So, lickity split I returned the unopened and unneeded blurple. After some research, I’m very happy with my HLG 320 v2 xl rspec. I’ll probably add another one during the next grow.

For now, the blurple sits in a box in a closet underneath a novelty plastic pile of dog poo.

But a nagging question: All of the buyers who paid ~$100 per blurple, used, in quantity=5… are they the guys who are growing crappy weed they give away with purchase of a $80 sticker?

They probably don’t have enough weed to give it away. If I had to guess, it’s legal to gift weed but not legal to sell. So you get gifted about $80 worth of free weed with $80 purchase of $1 sticker.

That’s the state of affairs in Washington DC. Medical is legal. Possession is legal[*]. Recreational sales are prohibited, but you can give it away. As a result, the recreational sales consist of “you buy my [sticker, t-shirt, .jpg, etc] for $80, I’ll give you $80 worth of weed.” [**]

[*] Well, sorta. DC is both locally governed AND with some federal (read: congress) control, and there are lots of areas of DC which are federal property. So it’s legal so long as you avoid federal jurisdiction (by staying off federal grounds).

[**] In Virginia, where recreational is now legal (<= 4 plants, etc), they’ve written into the law a direct prohibition against “contemporaneous sales” to make what happens in DC illegal. :frowning:

Lmao haha the light game really is brutal everyone lying, taking advantage of newbies. I too had the same experience but my manhood was not comprised lol. I got my burple and was told burples suck and it wasnt even really 1200W, so i just purchased the same light again thinking two 1200w burples is more then enough for my 4X4. Luckily i told the forum about my stupid purchase immediately and i was able to return the burples. I didnt go LED but i have enough light i went with Air Cooled 1000W HPS/MH. I plan on upgrading to LEDs when i have the money.

The laws in New York are still very new im not sure how many i can grow legally i think its only 6 per household with at least 2 adults +21yrs old. Really idc about laws iv been doing what ever with cannabis since i was 12yrs old im 39 now and never had a problem they arent worried about me. NY legalized recreational but there are no dispos at all yet for rec. just 3 med dispos. I went to them for about 3 yrs now but my card expired and im done spending $150 a year to buy ridiculously priced products. Even though were rec legal now the medical dispos still only sell lotions, potions, vape carts, and grounded flower. Its shakey af one company had a pretty good chunky grind with popcorn nugs but they were reported and had to grind it all to a pulp before selling and no wax concentrates at all except carts for $50-$75 a 1/2 Gram. I only do concentrates they all have great carts but very overpriced I tried there $140 gram concentrate 2-3 times but its not that great its really just a vape cart refill so not very good for dabbing from a banger its the same as just dropping some cart oil on banger. We are flooded with black market concentrates and pack n caps flowera at a couple bodegas. They sell right in the open and have been for years now and they have never been shutdown but im very skeptical as to whats really in the carts and concentrate. I felt addicted to it i was dabbing a G or more every day. I went to rehab for some other stuff but i asked them to check my blood and urine for everything due to iv been using these blackmarket waxes for years now not knowing 100% what’s in it. Luckily my drug test came back with only cannabis tested positive. So i dont think there adding any mind altering substance but i am still very concerned and curious to what if anything is added to the concentrates like mct oil maybe idk. I know when its a huge well known designer company like jungle boys, cookies, etc… that its pack n cap but when i get these black market companys i think there legit. Iv been getting 20/20 crumble and I just found these California Honey grams that are the best ever from a bodega but the QR code reads 404 not found, but wouldnt all the QR codes and id #s not be registered for black market sales? So they cant be tracked? I just figure they cant put them in system to sell anywhere. These cali honeys seem amazing. First i got a G of cake badder and it looked amazing tasted great i went right back same day and got a G of Runtz Diamonds and they were definitely different. The badder was for sure badder i said this looks like badder not diamonds to my boy before i knew it was really badder. Because when i got to bodega i told guy, i need your best wax not that 20/20 crumble. He then said you want diamonds i got you, and he gave me the badder when i got outside and got a good look it even said cake badder and when i got the 2nd G it said diamonds and indeed it was diamonds both look, taste, and make you feel great. So to me that’s my best case scenario of having a hash plug. I live in central NY not the city they have everything you could imagine on the black market there. I have a friend who gets fire from California via USPS but i was robbed $250 trying so i dont trust anyone i really hope i find a reliable hash plug soon. I plan on making some my first harvest. Sorry for the rant not sure why i wrote all this i was just about to delete it but i spent to much time writing it lol seriously i apologize if it messes wit anything let me know and ill delete it. :airplane::package::statue_of_liberty::electric_plug::mailbox:?

There’s nothing wrong with HID lighting. Hortilux is still advancing HID tech. Check out their Ceramic HPS and their CMH. Good stuff.

If I had the ability to cool the air better, I’d be very interested in their Ceramic HPS. You made a good choice ditching the Blurple for HID

Yes ty definitely I will I plan on making my own, so I’ll need help for sure. I’m hoping to get several grows under my belt before getting a better light so won’t be for a while. I went with the Vivosun 1000w ballast it has a 10% boost option on the switch after 1000w, I keep it on that but sometimes I turn it down during the day. I also got both MH/HPS 1000w bulbs. I’ll switch to HPS for flowering with a cpl CFLs and a little flourecent bulb as well. My light isn’t giving off much heat, I actually lowered it today to about 30" I think I had it to far away at 48" heat at plant level only read 75°f n 85°f above hood. It doesn’t feel hot when I hold my hand @ 20". I have a 6" duct fan blowing straight over my hood from my cold basement the air is hardly warm coming out. I don’t want to risk burning them but idk how close I should or even can go with my light. I read put your back hand under and if it’s hot after 30sec it’s too close. I can’t wait till they start growing double every day. I added some molasses to a bottle of water and I used it for my watering yesterday. I’m using SoHum Living Soil I put great white around the roots besides that and just added the molasses to water yesterday.
