Blue Dream, week 2 of 12/12. Just watered before pics. There are pre-flowers, but seems slower than what I’m used to. Stunted and leaf twists. I have no numbers for you all, I do it the old fashioned way, so if you would, pretend this post was before the age of Amazon and I live out in the sticks beyond the range of a hydroponics store.
Plant was bent, twisted, and stressed throughout veg into the wonderful bush you see before you. In soil 15g fabric. Began watering with spring water just prior to flower, as pH of tap is likely not ideal right now due to the weather we’ve been having. Flora trio nutes and top dressed twice with store bought compost and worm castings. Add about 1/2 tsp of Epsom to water here and there. It’s been colder than usual. Also the light is new, diablo 650 R, I’m still figuring it out.
Without knowing numbers it’s kind of a crap shoot, but let’s give it a try!!!
It looks like there may be a little nitrogen issue going on. As they get further in flower, there’s less of a demand for the nitrogen, and more for the phosphorus and potassium. How often are you feeding and how much? I’m not familiar with the Flora lineup, but others here are and can definitely help.
Also, that light is a beeeeeeast. How close is it, and what is the intensity at? If you have an Android phone, download the Photone App. It’ll a really simple to use, fairly accurate dli meter. You want to be around 42-45dli at this stage. It can also bump your temps up, so be mindful. I try to stay under 82°, but I just put in a new 350r and it jumped up my temps almost 10°
Nutes are fine, not the issue. The light is the x factor. I’ve got it at about 2 feet above canopy at 100%. It’s cold though, heat is definitely not the issue, the tent is in a garage and it’s like 45° in there. Light intensity is what you are saying and I suspect that could be a problem. I don’t have a lot of experience with LEDs.
You cant be certain of that. Especially without knowing something about your numbers. Typically leaves twisting like that is pH related. And the slight clawing (along with lightly burnt tips) is a sign of excess Nitrogen.
Also like he said, that light is a BEAST. You have such a bushy squat, short noded (close branches) because of the intensity. Raising the like a half a foot to a foot or turning it down intensity wise would encourage more node spacing and a bit more stretch.
pH is possibly an issue. In my soil it would be unlikely. Nutes themselves are fine, their uptake on the other hand could be a problem, still I doubt it. I’m going with the light being the issue. Thanks. Will bring it up and lower down intensity as you’ve all said.
Not saying the nutes are wrong, or measured improperly, but not knowing how much you’re feeding, or if it is range, can cause way more issues than simple light adjustments. Cannabis in soil, unless it’s a living soil, requires a pH of 6.2-.8, with 6.5 being the sweet spot. Spring water can have many different minerals in it effecting the pH and ppm’s, as well.
Knowing the pH and ppm’s of your source water, before and after mixing, is a key factor in getting those fat, tasty nugs we all aim to grow.
Whether or not the problem persists, I HIGHly recommend a quality pH tester. Worth the investment. TDS meters are cheap as heck, also and a super handy tool to keep in the belt.
Without numbers, the problem is 100 percent light way too close. Need to have those HLG’s 35 inches from the top of the plant. Turn the intensity down as well to help the plant recover.
Thanks all. Yes, measurements are good. The soil is something I’ve made for years now and the small supplemental amount of liquid nutes don’t worry me. It’s the light. I got it on a CL hunt and figured why not. I did one plant so as not to fuck up an entire crop. Still trying to figure it out, but you have helped. I have dialed it down to 80%, raised it up. I am already seeing improvement.
Youll love your light. I have 3 HLGs and about to pull the plug on another… its very addictive. Just watch your height from your canopy and youll be golden. Be prepared to watch your buds fatten up like King George!
I got it on a Craigslist hunt. I’ve grown with HPS for decades. Tried some purple LEDs that I ended up throwing away due to shittyness. Yeah, this light has the power for sure, and it’s deceiving because it’s not getting hot. How far do you keep it from the canopy?
@thepopeofdope i keep mine at 30in minimum at about 75%. If you have android, download the phototone or ppfd meter app and itll help you zero in your lights measuring dli and ppfd. Depending on your stage of growth depends on the ppfd range.
