I HAVE GNATS and they are REAL BAD got a plant from a friend the plant is in super soil. Dont knw to much about soil but i do knw tht tht thy are bad i have a bowl of apple cider vinegar sitting out but dnt think tht wrks. Need info plz
Sticky traps, neem oil, and put a layer of sand over the soil.
Diatomaceous earth food grade and peroxide kills them too. You can water with diluted peroxide with water. I used it to kill them in a dwc, grow. Just be careful the peroxide shocked my plant I think. but it recovered and gnats all died out of my medium. I also had ladybugs tearing them up
Let soil dry out they live in the roots and the moister the happier they are
Also having a fan Moving air across top of the soil helps keep them from being able to lay more eggs also a layer or perilite also helps on the top
The Nate’s as @Donaldj stated need to wet soil to lay the larvae all good ideas
I tried cinnamon powder, not only did the tent smell nice it also worked.
Does it reall wrk
Thanks im trting to find the best way
Dis you pour it over the soil
Took a few days, but after shaking a good amount of cinnamon powder on the top soil the nats died out. Just need to make sure you keep on top of them so they don’t come back.
So did you have thm deeper then the first layer of soil
I’ve never heard of these gnats?? What are thay??
Does the cinnamon powder hurt the plant
I believe he is talking about the ones on the left.
They are pesky but don’t freak, I’ve never seen them cause damage overnight. Many times just drying out once won’t get the job done, it’s a repetitive process combined with those yellow traps.
Once they are there, you can probably expect them to hang out for awhile even with treating them.
A mixture of 1 part h²o² to 4 parts h²o when you do occasionally water will help kill the larvae.
Theres a product called gnatnix its 100 % recycled glass i used that with the Diatomaceous Earth and the yellow stickys
I tried it on 2 clones I have, didn’t hurt them at all. The cinnamon lasted about 2 weeks thru the watering. Now I just spray the soil with neem oil to maintain it.
Cheers mate!! Like i said never heard or seen em! Thanks but
I had the most remarkably hostile gnat infestation, and used an arsenal of treatments but it worked. I first watered with the peroxide/water 1 to 4 ratio. It helped. I already had put DE down, but it was not working nearly at the rate it would need to to correct the problem. Edit++I forgot to add that I sprayed with neem oil too.++ I then put a layer of sand on top, but again, not quick enough; over time it would be fine. I already had four fans going. I then read about using mosquito dunks. The company that makes them makes them in a small bb shaped kibbles and I bought that and just sprinkled some on top of the soil, and with all that, in a couple more days I saw none. I had a very extreme case There is also a hot sauce/cigarette formula one of the members here has posted in several places.

USE THESE TWO A.S.A.P TO RID YOUR PROBLEM OF GNATS
Tabacco Juice recipe
Take 3 strong ciggeretes soak them over night in water and the hottest hot sauce you can find.
Boil it for 2 to 3 miniutes, let it cool off the strain using ladies nylon socks and spray the plants 3 to 4 times a week. You can add safer soap if you like to the mixture.
(make absolutly sure you use gloves/face protection while handling and spraying).
And you can cut up potatoes into small pecies and place them on top of your soil. replace every two days it works great !
