Beginner indoor grow help

1st time grower(s). So my girlfriend and I decided to build a 10 x 10 shed in the backyard to grow in a 6 x 6 area so we have room to move around and some space to store some backyard supplies. We’ve decided to get the autoflower mix pack (amnesia, blueberry, and northern) because its our first time growing. We plan on getting (3) 600W LED’s (the 600W LED’s replaces ~400W HPS’s in power/light), .And setting up a grow space where each strain(3-4 plants per strain) gets their own light and hopefully we get about 11-12 ounces per strain. A few questions I have is; Is this a realistic (dry weight) yield? How can we improve the yield and potency?

Side note: I did not exclude heating, humidity, fans or reflective surface in our list of concerns, I have already researched a fair bit.

You plan to put 3-4 plants under each 600w led? That may not be enough light for 3-4 plants. maybe 2 plants per 600w led.
@dbrn32 will be able to answer this better for sure.

Depends on the led light the QBs at 600 watts I researched last night would do quite well but I’m not sure about the volume of plants with autos they won’t get huge but if scrog 6x6 would quickly fill

For sure depends on lights, I am just assuming they are just Chinese led lights with wall output of less than acouple hundred true watts.

I’d recommend looking into quantum board LEDs and make sure you do your ph and ppm research before you start it will definitely help you to stay ahead of your plants needs

I see what you mean but would they still give the same yield? I know how basic yield works, is 1 Watt = 1 gram, And that was for HPS lights, and I’m looking at getting the Phlizon Newest 600W LED Plant Grow Lights which are on amazon for around 90 bucks a light, I’ve read the reviews and one said he used 2 for a 4x4 grow area so I figured 3 would work.

Most hps growers seem to treat that as a bragging point. It’s in no way a standard that you’ll get a gram per watt under hps. For an experienced grower, with right things in place, it’s definitely attainable though.

I would agree with the others on led lights too. A lot of those companies inflate the ability of their lights, some even flat out lie. The lights ability to yield will be heavily dependent on the amount light it emits and not how much power it consumes. So I would definitely do your research and try to find some actual grows with posted results before reading too much into a particular manufacturers advertising.

@anon46981397 you have the rite man for the job, @dbrn32 will help you go in the rite direction. You are in good hands with him, I don’t think I have read ANY threads on lights within this forum where he hasnt helped out in some way. And all have been pleased with results from his advice.

I understand what you mean by the gram per watt, since I’m a beginner grower I’ll hopefully get half a gram to 3/4s a gram per “watt”, or is that a pipe dream. And reading multiple reviews I’ve seen big healthy looking buds and the best way to set it up in my opinion would be either (2) 900 W LEDs or the original (3) 600 W LEDs with some side lights as well

Irregardless is there any pointers anybody can give to me? Maybe about new lights that aren’t too expensive but work well.

I use the mars2 hydro i have one 600w an 2 300w an they work great an aren’t very exspensive at all, might not be top of the line but for the price work amazingly

Maybe its because I’m looking at the wrong light but the 600 W is almost 300$, is that correct?

300 is cheap but I’ve seen a few decent quality around there. I just saw a 2 pack of 188w QBs for 350 probably the best price I’ll see for a while

600w Mars on grow buds for 219

The first thing you need to identify is that 600w, 1000w, or whatever are usually just arbitrary numbers. Most of those aren’t 600 or 1000 watt lights. The actual power consumption is much less and despite manufacturers suggestions they do not have the same amount of light output as bigger hid lights. Then more importantly, it makes no comparison to the efficiency of components that are used.

That’s why some 300 watt lights are twice as much as some 600 watt labeled lights. It it uses better components, the 300 watt model can put out several times more light than even a 2000w model.

And there’s a reason why. I checked and the true draw of that light is 108 watts.

Lighting is one of the items where cheap isn’t better, I went cheap on my setup and my lighting fixtures even with only using off the shelf led bulbs my lighting setup is already over $200 invested and I will need to spend another $70-80 when it’s time to flip for flower realistically I should have just splurged at the start and bought a decent qb or higher end led board in the $300 range after this grow I will definitely be upgrading. Do some serious lighting research ask the guys here about what they use and what’s worked for them. These guys know some from from doing it the hard way some from upgrading. Looking forward to seeing your grow as it develops and is as successful as possible

I paid 150 for mine

I’ve looked at that and similar priced lights, they are very light weight with the Philizon under 5lbs. Spending another $70 gets one that weighs 10lbs or more and draws well over 200 watts out of the wall. (for a 600W rating) . I think I am going to opt for one of the heavier units.

My 600w is heavy my 300w are the light ones lol

Thank you all for your input on lighting, with some consideration we have decided to go with a slightly smaller grow, perhaps 4x4, at first to save money so we can keep investing later on. @anon46981397 @dbrn32 @geezer906 @JoshawaM do any of you guys have some sites I can look at that have a well priced lighting set up for a 4 x 4 area? I want to make sure our first attempt at growing isn’t a greek tragedy.
