Beechnut Pharm Tales

I don’t have any special skills or techniques for training. I just pruned away the small side branches and continuously super cropped the main branches while waiting for a pair of autos to finish then stretched the netting and wove and tied with the goal of filling in the empty spaces before flipping.

Soooo I have already changed my plan. I had enough grow dots left for 4 gallons and checked the real growers site to reaffirm that they are fine for using in coco. I decided to split it between the two 2 gallon mesh bags I have and go with a pair of autoflowers again even though I have said that I would be taking a break from them in favor of photo period to get my harvest weight back up and get to the point where I can actually have a stash that will at least bridge the gap between grows. I chose Ethos My Thai and RQS Milky Way. Dropped them yesterday afternoon and transferred them to damp paper towels just a few minutes ago. Both have little taproot nubs popping out but I would like to give them a little more time on the heat mat (77*F) overnight before planting.

That sounds like a great plan OQ. Glad you’re back growing and both seeds have germed. Those strains sound awesome. I actually looked at the growdots for next grow and they seem perfect for autos. I’m actually starting to come around to the auto action and plan on running as many as possible in between photos. The Vida Blanca Border Jumper Auto I have going is in a 2 gallon pot and doing the best yet. Even CBGB who was in a 5 gallon never developed a root ball bigger than a 2 gallon pot. I also love how easy the 2 gallon pots are to handle and move around. I can’t wait to see the action unfold. Get it OQ! :sunglasses::metal:t2:

Li’l peepers…. Yeah, it’s starting to look that way. Growing kinda slow. Tomorrow will be a week above ground.

Milky Way :point_up_2:

My Thai :point_up_2:
I noticed white fuzz on the surface of the coco a couple days ago and went to war on it. Now I’m thinking it might just have been the mycorrhizae…oops.
Not sure why the leaf tips are looking fried on both, especially the MT. Temps are 75-77 avg, humidity is irrelevant with the jar domes but it ranges from 68-78. Light turned down as low as it goes and about 10” above. The pH maybe off but shouldn’t be more than a couple tenths if at all. My second apera in 3 years will not calibrate but will take readings so I am using the 7 and 4 solutions to check and calculate the offset which is now about a full point, meaning a 6.0 will read 7.0-7.1 now. Not loving it but I guess better than nothing. I was really hoping the switch to coco would turn over a new leaf but not getting the rapid growth is a bit discouraging. Also I have not observed this coco drying out any quicker than the soils I’ve used (plenty of perlite in it?wtf?) so that water daily s**t is not happening so far apart from misting the surface daily after day 4. That has me leaning towards root zone too moist as the culprit which I definitely didn’t expect to be an issue in coco. Guessing that like any product, there is good coco and bad coco. Mine is from Lowe’s and the slow dry time has me wondering. I’m aware that as a plant grows the water needs increase so 2x a day schedule normal for a “full grown “plant but I am now questioning how to strike the balance between keeping the medium moist and overwatering. I believe the sprayer is the correct way for now but again I’m finding myself looking to the sky saying whyyyyyy!!! Second guessing the 2 auto plan now. Maybe 1 photo in a 5 gallon should have been better but I don’t like putting all my eggs in one basket. If they don’t show enough improvement by week 3 I very well may pull them and go single photo. Fingers crossed. Happy growing y’all.

Ps…. As usual, any advice or criticism is welcomed however, I have a $0 budget for this right now so before anyone says it, I’m not replacing the meter anytime soon.

I’ve never grown in coco, so :person_shrugging: . Bummer, though.
What brand is the coco?
Did you … my brain is too slow this morning … not sure what it’s called when folks prep their coco and buffer it with calmag.
If you’ve mentioned all that before, my apologies for not looking for it at the moment. :upside_down_face:

This is what I’m using with dots and mycos. I buffered with cal mag and silica. Cannot reliably tell the pH but I hope that my offset calculation put it at 5.8. Ppm was about 500 using tap water with a starting point of about 100 before adding anything.

Just checked their site and they are somewhat lacking on details. They claim no additives but also tout the water retaining properties which is a bit concerning. Maybe I should buy smarter in the future but I don’t really know. It’s frustrating not knowing an exact cause when I run into problems. That’ll lead one down the wrong path quickly when you start acting out of desperation making guesses. I’m just going to have to hope for the best. I’m thankful for the emotional support and advice from my friends here despite the outcomes that I’ve been having.

Those don’t look too small for 1 week autos. I would let the coco continue to dry back and foliar mist with a micro dose of nutes if needed until more roots get established. I’m surprised and would have thought the same in coco. Hang in there week 2 should see some growth. :sunglasses::+1:t2:

Thanks Shade. I’m actively investigating now. I buffered about 8 gallons worth and have half of it left unused in a 5 gallon since the day of prep. It’s still moist so not a very encouraging sign for the choice of brand. It’s really finely ground imho but I have no basis for comparison. I expected a more fiberous texture than this. I think I have begun to identify the problem here. FYI, the domes cover the girls when I mist so they have been kept dry to the best of my ability.

Scoped the fungi in question. No idea if it’s the good or bad kind. Either way, lost coast at ridiculous strength didn’t phase it.

I haven’t used coco and so I’m not up on the latest. About a year or so, I believe it was @AfgVet and others who recommended Canna Coco Bricks. AfgVet can you confirm/advise? Thanks!

If you used any mycorrhizae…which I believe you mentioned…then I suspect it’s the good kind. I doubt you accidentally caught some bad and it’s growing like that. Stay the course bro. :sunglasses::+1:t2:

Thanks @Twelve1. I probably should have put more consideration into choosing. Trying to save money using employee discount. There weren’t other options there. I have put a hold on daily misting, consensus be damned. The unused coco is still moist enough to clump and stick to my hand after a week and a half following hydration so it’s down to my observation rather than the prescribed water regimen. I’ll take my chances with hydrophobic vs what I’m seeing. Hopefully I’m not too far off.
