Autopot reservoir, substitute 12 gallon with a 5?

I’m buying a 4 pot Autopot system next week.
A thought occurred to me. Would it be possible to switch out the 12 gallon reservoir for a 5 gallon bucket.

It might make sense for me in my application.

Thoughts?

I run four Autopots and daisy-chained two 12 gallon rez’s together. In flower I have to fill them every three days at 1 1/2 gallons per plant per day.

I have the same system, mix my feed up in a 5 gallon bucket and then dump it into the res. With 4 plants, it will last 3 days. I like the extra capacity for when I go away for a week, I mix up 2 batches and leave with 10 gallons in the reservoir.

Also if yo do go away for a week at a time, clean out the lines and floats before you go! I’ve come back to a clogged line and a thirsty lady before! Recovered, but still a preventable bummer!

5 gallons / 4 plants / 3 days = 0.13 gallons per plant per day.

That’s more than 10 times as much as @Myfriendis410 . Did one of you make a mistake?

I try not to grow big plants, altho hard not to with autopots!

I use 13 gallon trash cans or 5 gallon buckets that I daisy chain to gather :love_you_gesture:

I use a 3 way on the 2 res lines to a single feeder line going into the tent :love_you_gesture:

Question.

When you hook them up as a daisy chain, do the buckets have to be at different levels in order for the water to draw?

In other words, the buckets furthest from the tent need to be higher than the reservoir closest to the tent?

You can place them side by side or higher, the auto tray float controls the flow and how much is allowed in the trays, the res lines are always full. My buckets or reservoirs sit about 12-18-“ above my tent floor :love_you_gesture:

@Beard-O I would like to mention that I have a shut off valve before the daisy chain 3 way. I place these between all the resevoirs and trays, makes maintenance easy when you can shut the flow off to pull plants or do some tray maintenance :love_you_gesture:
