As luck would have it. A week into using the drydoc everything was running smoothly. A good friend of mine fell on hard times and offer me his vivosun V cure smart box. So took him up on his offer. 300$ for a two month old box. Wasnt even used. so i thought i would give it a go. 24 hrs in use and it seems ok. However im not very comfortable with the humidity swings. Swing about 5 points higher then the setting so we’ll see how it does. Its definitely pretty sizeable and some pretty cool features. If all goes well on my next harvest ill use both drydoc and vcure and post results.
If it uses the standard Vivosun hygrometer type lead or sensor I stock the thing because of drift and not holding calibration. Any way like a cube hygrometer to check for verification? 5 point swing is a lot. Does it happen multiple times an hour or how often is the swing?
According to log it spike about every 45 minutes. I emailed company. They said its normal not to go off spike but use the average which is around 63%
Does just the humidity move or does the temp move at the same time?
Just humidity
Let us know if this huge swing affects the final harvest outcome.
I would not allow that kind of pattern ina grow tent and have a 2 point 1 up and 1 down in my drying tent with a duct fan on 2 and a small Vivosun 5 liter little humidifier that could.
If I have a pattern like that in a grow tent it’s from incorrect metering of humidity add.
My guess if it’s correcting from a higher outside humidity than the drying out portion the dehumidification takes a while to spool up and then over swings.
Do you have a humidity situation that the room it is in that is kinda high like 70%?
Ok since this is a new but older unit have you updated the firmware? I guess they had a history of calibration issues.
Also some things about cold or hot water being used or not wetting filter even though the instructions say to wet the filter.
You are not alone in this issue but yes right on the Vivosun page ± 3% is ok.
My grow room stays around 68 degrees and 58 rh . I did moisten fillter. But only filled water about quarter of the way. Did update firmware however i did not do a calibration. Put a few hydro meters in there a few hours ago will do a calibration based on that info. I probably wont have good results anyway. I had to go out of town for the birth of my grandson. Got back a week later and the plant dried completely out. Fans were crispy. It smells good qhen its broken up still a little hay smell and little harsh but il literally just now starting cure . They did dry perfectly in the dry doc however. So i figured i throw them in v cure for curing.
The problem I see with that box is it’s just too small.. If you fill that with flower I don’t see how it would be possible not to have those kind of humidity spikes… however, I don’t think that’s gonna cause you a big problem with your flower. I have two identical sheds . Each of them has a loft on the inside that 6 foot tall and 12 foot long. The area below that loft has a window. I put up a blackout curtain and crank that AC to the max and I put my dehumidifier and my vaporizer in the room, the humidity rarely ever spikes and I’m able to keep the temperature at a steady 62° . I wish I had the ability to get it to 60 but I live in Texas so you take what you can get. The system has been working extremely well for five years. If there’s any loss of Terpine or potency, I haven’t noticed it.
Its actually holds a good amount. I only have about 3 oz in there. I did some calibration but all that really did was move the ranges of spikes. I did get hold od service rep. They said its normal due to the compressor style like cooler. It not thermoelectric unfortunately. However the spike are so short that it actually help with so called compressor and heat spikes. According to rep. Temperature does stay consistent so no issues there. They said to go off the average number and that is the rh of box. Which it does seam to average right at about 58- 62 rh. So i reckon thats ok. Hell it maybe simply because its sitting right in front of my ac unit in grow room lol… well see how it goes. Wont be a true test simply because i built a drydoc a few weeks ago and dried the flower in there. Which dried them perfectly, then i put them in v cure to cure . Made a custom cure recipe. We shall see. At worst case it will be an overpriced storage unit i got at a steal of a deal.
Keep us updated.
I think I could make a huge knock off cure box for the budget of 500 bucks.
I guess the first step is looking for a wine cooler cabinet…
You definitely can pretty simple. Will keep you posted for sure.
