Another rough grow. Had some issues but keep pushing. Week 8 of flower and the flower looks good but the plant itself looks pretty rough. Most of the fans have fallen off except the one in the back right , looks like its praying to the gods lol. Stems are red to purple even. Ppm and ph are all in range. Ive been doing some research and cant really say as to why me girls tend to get rough looking mid flower., i could only guess this is also contributing to my flower not being what i expected. Not bad by any means but just feel lit something is missing, when i compare to flower ive had in the pass.( before i started growing my own.) Could i be over or under doing it on feeds as far as nutes? I typically use half recommend dose, but i do crank up to 3/4 by mid flower as i assume the plant needs it. Anyone willing to chime in with thoughts. Ive even changed nutes. It recommend feeding micro, grow and bloom in all 3 phases. Should one be using bloom nutes in veg? And vice versa, grow nutes in bloom. This all has me so confused. So strange you put so much effort into make something beautiful just to chop it all down, but thats the name of the game lol. Thanks for the time.
Is this an autoflower? Leaves pointing up praying to God is them asking for more light you could lower your light or increase lights intensity. Red/purple stems are totally normal and nothing to be concerned about. This is a natural defense mechanism of the plant. It’s equivalent to suntan lotion on a human. They turn purplish red protect themselves from light. (All my plants do it)
As far as your micro grow and Bloom nutrients you are correct you use them from beginning to end all three.
If you could break down a normal feed and include ppms both intake and run off this will let me know if you’re over or under feeding. How much calcium magnesium do you use when feeding? Also how frequently do you use calcium and magnesium?
Example
Intake Feed
Ppm. 500
pH. 5.2
Runoff
Ppm 750
pH 6.2
What size pots are you using? Are you in soil?
Keep in mind you mentioned you are in week 8 of flower this means you are at the end or very close to the end. Plants are going to start looking rough during this time. It will be totally normal to see yellowing leaves dying off fan leaves ECT…
Just looking at your pictures it looks as if you may have had some calcium magnesium deficiency for a while (maybe). When I grow autoflowers I stop using calcium and magnesium altogether in week 8 or 9 of flower.
You’re so far into flower to be even concerned about calcium and magnesium. For the record your girls don’t look as bad as you think they are. You’re at the end of its life cycle. They’re basically only ripening at this point. It’s very common for them to look this way in week 8 of flower
Very informative, guess i was told wrong from the get go. All the while , ive been feeding wrong, grow and micro or big grow and liquid food ff. Once i flower i stop using grow and use bloom only with liquid plant food. , i rarely use cal mag maybe once or twice, they are photos, ppm going in usually 900 to 1000, ph 6.4 coming out its round 1400 to 1800 at highest. I was feeding at a rate of 1/2 to maybe 3/4 gallons per 5 gallon bag, but now i drench to drought. But obviously i have been feeding completely wrong. In soil using fox farm trio but just switched to blue planet nutrients F P .
If you look at the smaller plant in the far right its about 4 weeks in and most of the fans have already fallen off. , i will definitely change up my feed on next grow. Also im using the mars hydro sp 6500 light. Its at full max ,

This is early flower where things start going south
@Bluedream1
Feeding can be very confusing. Example I use advanced nutrients micro grow and Bloom (just like you) and I use all three equally throughout the entire grow.
However, if you’re growing something like tomato plants you break them down into grow and Bloom using one or the other when applicable.
Yes I believe one of your problems is that you are not feeding correctly. Ironically enough your numbers are perfect.
You say you have a plant in week 3 of flower. (I would definitely correct the feeding on this particular plant)
You’re also going to notice that when you use all three you may want to go down to 1/2 or even 1/4 strength to suffice the additional nutrients.
If you’re using tap water in the future to feed you can get away with not using calcium magnesium. However if you’re using rain, ro, or distilled water you may want to give your plants some low doses of calcium and magnesium somewhere around 150 EC every other feed. This will guarantee you’re not going to see any calcium magnesium deficiency throughout the entire grow.
Looking at your picture closely I only see a couple leaves praying. I wouldn’t worry about any type of light adjustment for that. If the entire plant (and or all of the plants) we’re doing this I would adjust.
Another thing you may want to consider doing when your next grow (if you’re not already,) periodic flushes due to the fact you’re using Fox farm trios. It’s incredibly salty. Salt build up in your soil can lead to lock out and other issues.
Very , much so. Thats why i switched to blue planet, it so clear when it comes out the jug. I dont flush , never understood the concept of it, i would think going into flower you would need the extra nutes in soil, but now that you say salty, maybe thats the point of flush. … but yeah most likely i wont be using ff anymore.
Here you can see from week to week on current grow. What ever happened it did it like over night ,happens every grow.
I only use advanced nutrients when it comes to (base nutrients). Crazy priced but very worth it.
You’re correct the purpose of the flush is to flush out salt build up from the nutrients. Salt build up in your root zone is not your friend.
It’s clearly obvious you have some calcium magnesium deficiencies going on in that grow. I would definitely utilize the every other day low dose of Cal mag.
I know a lot of people like Fox farm trio I was never a fan of its salt content so I never even tried it. Not to beat on them but I think it was smart getting away from them.
Choosing the correct nutrients are in my opinion your number one most important decision in growing.
One of the most overlooked aspects of growing in soil than I see from growers is paying attention feeding the microbial/fungi life in your soil. This is the heart of your root zone. Do you use any microbial life products?
Once a month I add new microbial fungi life to my soil and I feed them on a weekly basis. So many people don’t pay attention to this.
No i do not use any microbial products didn’tknow i needed to lol , what do you recommend.
Well let me rephrase that i use liquid seaweed and molasses in addition to my nutrients if thats what you mean ? But i figure the blue planet micro had every thing needed, along with grow and bloom.
For someone with no experience in the microbial life to keep it simple I would definitely pick up these two items for my next grow
1.) Advanced nutrients voodoo juice (this is microbial life that you will add to your feed water)
2.) Advanced nutrients Bud Candy this product feeds the microbial life. (It’s like a five course meal for the microbial life)
Both of these products are very inexpensive and you’re only going to use 1/4 strength.
This will keep your microbial life alive, happy, your roots will love you for it. It also increases the ability of the roots to uptake nutrients easier.
These two products will do the job without adding stress to your job! They’re both in any hydroponics store or Amazon. I generally buy the 500 ml bottle. You’re only using approximately 2 mil per gallon so a little goes a long way.
There’s a ton of other stuff but it’s very easy to get lost on this subject so the above simply keeps it simple
I use a seaweed extract as well. Molasses is the same thing as Bud Candy (it’s sugar) Bud Candy just has more specific ingredients to feed the microbial life.
Personally I would ditch the molasses and use Bud Candy. You can continue to use the seaweed extract as well.
Leafs pointing up is not asking for more light. Its too much light! Slight pray not bad…always have a reliable way of knowing your ppfd. Every1 wants to just give too much light…see it all the time…
You’re right I got that ass backwards.
(I apologize in advance to all of our 12-year-old Reddit members for saying ass)
I’d just go with Jacks.
Very simple and hard to overdo it
Lots of very good information here. What makes advanced nutrients your go to choice. Can you use them in hydroponic setting? Approximately what is the nutrients cost per grow of how many plants. I have been using Green Planet and it’s around $700 for enough to feed 8 plants for 1 1/2 grows.
Be careful, a little praying is ok but too much can lead to rapid leaf transpiration
I’ve seen them overproduce resin on the leaves, from what I read it’s their way making sunscreen
Every time I pray nothing happens. (Dear God get me out of this and I promise I’ll never do it again. In the name of baby Jesus and black Jesus amen)
