Growing Northern Lights autoflower in soil mixed with peat moss and perlite. Plant should be done very shortly but last week started to get burnt tips at top and midway down plant. First thought was Nute burn so I went back to check my numbers. Last time watered with nutes was 3/30 (Tiger bloom 1/4 tsp per gallon-2 gallons in) pH in 6.0 ppm in475. PH out was 6.6 with 513 ppm. Watered again on 4/3 & 4/8 with regular well water. Last watering on 4/8 pH in was6.04 and ppm in was 392. Runoff was 6.65 pH and 448 ppm. Throughout its life plant was given low dose nutes. Every third watering was with regular pH’d water (no nutes). Are these ppm to high? Second thought was light burn. LED light was 18 inches above plant. Moved to 24 inches but still tips getting worse.
I assume this plant will be fine because it is so close to harvest. Trying to learn in case this happens earlier in plant life next time
I’m probably going to be disagreed with and it’s cool ,plant looks perfectly fine ,the tips mean your nutes are working ,
I also don’t think with fox farms those ppm are high ,there’s a chart somewhere that shows what’s acceptable .
My bropinion is you’ll be fine and it’s not the largest plant so maybe feeding as directed would have burned it up ?
So imagine you were feeding using every product here what the ppm would be …
The dark green and tips could indicate a nitrogen toxicity.
You could cut your nitrogen down a bit until done.
I agree with the others, at this stage that little amount of burn shouldn’t cause too much of an issue. Whats your lighting specs? Might want to get a more powerful one for your next grow if youre wanting a bigger yield
Should i still top dress my soil with worm castings even though i use ff nuets?
Yes; high N will produce smaller flower stacks. How much light are they seeing?
The light schedule is 20 on 4 off. Last runoff was 448 ppm. Is that considered high? My regular well water is almost 400 ppm with nothing added.
You may want to do something about the water hardness. It will cause problems if adding supplements.
And, no; your TDS is not high.
What is the actual wattage of your lights?
The light is a cheap one from Amazon. Brand is lampsoul led 120 watt. This is the only plant under this light (24 inches above) I do have a water softener, but read somewhere that softened water is worse. If my two choices are my hard well water or softened water, which should I choose?
I had harder water than that from my tap in California. The only fix was to start using R/O (reverse osmosis). Bought a cheap unit that hooked to a garden hose and used that until I moved out of state. That is probably your only choice.
120 watts is at the low end of growing out a plant. You can veg just fine but light intensity needs to be pretty high in flower. I recommend 200 watts of quality LED’s to properly flower a single plant.
Thanks for all the great info. If possible could you post a link to the type of system you used. I tried looking but got quickly overwhelmed as I know nothing about this stuff.
