Alcohol Tincture

So I had a bunch of popcorn buds and trimmings. Decided to try and make a tincture. This is what I did…

2 oz of weed ground up

  • Decarbed it at 245f for 45 minutes
Put it a Mason jar with 3 cups of Everclear.

I put it in a cool, dark closet. I shake it up 2 - 4 times a day. I plan on letting it sit for 21 days.

I will strain it through a coffee filter or 2 when its ready.

We shall see.

Keeping in the freezer works better if you dont want all the extra crap from the plant.

If it’s for topical you are fine. If orally ingested it’s gonna be nasty.

Like stated a freezer wash (QWET) is a much better way to go. That eliminates 90% of the chlorophyll which is what gives it a bitter, ‘weedy’ taste.

How long do you keep it in the freezer?

Freeze flower and alcohol: -20F is good if your freezer goes that low. I use dry ice (-40F). Allow flower and alcohol to cool down then mix 1 oz per gram of flower (do NOT grind but loosely break up larger flower) Mix and shake vigorously for 3 minutes and allow to stand for 7 minutes more. One last shake then strain through a strainer and filter through a cone coffee filter. Done.

You decarb first correct?

Yes decarb first

Yes de carb first, I tried with some good results didn’t let it set for that long. Only about 5 days in frezzer, then went into water bath. Mason jar with cheese cloth on top and about water half way up. To burn off the alcohol. Good lock many ways to do it

If you plan on using the tincture orally then you want to do a Qwet or its gonna taste so bad you’ll have to figure out something else to do with it.
What are you trying to accomplish by soaking bud for 21 days. Even if you are making topicals/ointments you shouldn’t need to soak it that long. Ive never heard of anyone soaking for that long “on purpose” maybe im missing something.

Online recipe. Tried to post tbe link but can’t for some reason.

  1. Decarb your cannabis by breaking it up and placing it in an oven heated to 230 degrees Fahrenheit (110 degrees Celsius) for 30 minutes.
  2. Once cooled, put the decarbed cannabis in your glass jar and add just enough alcohol to submerge the cannabis.
  3. Seal the jar and store in a cool, dark place for three weeks. Shake once daily. The cannabis and alcohol mixture needs to sit for 21 days so the cannabinoids completely dissolve into the alcohol. If you want the tincture right away, you can shake the jar vigorously for several minutes and go to the next step. But be aware you might be leaving valuable cannabinoids behind and you’ll certainly have a less potent tincture.
  4. After 21 days, strain the cannabis and alcohol mixture through a coffee-filter-lined funnel into the tincture bottle, leaving enough room for the eyedropper

ILGM doesnt allow links except Amazon and a few other approved links

Ive tasted some nasty tinctures made from soaking alcohol for different lengths of time “not 21 days” and it tastes progressively worse the longer it soaks and doesnt get much more potent after one or two quick washes. I would rather have a clean tincture than one that had a bunch of other stuff that was, for me unnecessary, unless I was making an ointment or was gonna refine it by winterizing it somehow. You could separate out most of those waxes and lipids for a topical and use the cleaned oil for a tincture. There’s some good videos on YouTube showing how to make a qwet.

Yes. This will preferentially extract THC, CBD and terpenes without much chlorophyll passing through. When I did budder this way I used coconut oil as it’s good to cook with and presses out of the plant material better. Not that that’s a problem with a tincture. I would also add a tablespoon of sunflower lecithin as it will help the body’s liver uptake THC more efficiently.

Live and learn.

Give this one a read too. Agree with everything said above.

Thank you. Looks like I made the “Green Dragon”.

Smells like ass. Probably gonna taste worse.

But at 2.33g per oz of Everclear, it should be strong.

Yeah I don’t recommend the long soaks, it’s the way I used to do it (green dragon tincture) but tastes so nasty, better to go with freezer and quick soak times.

We extract the alcohol from the wash and use the feco to infuse i mct oil and add some flavoring. The favorite lately is green apple. My1oz bottle runs 1400mg a few drops under the tongue does the trick

Do you folks evaporate all of the alcohol off? And then an oil is left? I do not fully understand.
