Hello fellow growers and learners. I will take on the ‘noob’ nickname until I know what I am offically doing. I am starting with the basics, a light, heat pad and grow dome from my local store. I started with random seeds and I have failed with a set of 3 seeds at first, not having a tall enough dome top.
that mistake. Got a dome that about 8 inches taller, started again with some ILGM OG Kush. And so here are, at this point of seeing these seedings getting this tall that quick, 3/4 made it, i kept the 4th to see if it was just late. I definetly AM slow on the curve of lighting and welp, a Spectra 1000w full spectrum light was found on Amazon. I have also ordered a 2x2 grow tent on the way as well. I have a walmart humidifer already alavaible for the future. 2 small and a house fan ready and waiting to be used. Pictures provided, taken 4 days ago. Im ready to start for the transplant. My question is should i worry about the pH right out the gate for the soil i eventually get, or wait a week after transplant? I’m still doing my research for soil over coco, just my schedule looks more towards soil. Cal-mag and such nutrients, do they needed to be added to my soil mix, or is better distribution planting and sprinkling and mixing on top? I figured some 2.5 gallon buckets would be a good start for me at the moment. So please give me your healthy advice, the noobie do’s and don’ts. I hope to continue witht the updating, if not move to another topic.
For alot of us on here that grow in soil we usually start the seed in a solo cup once big enough you can transplant to a 2 gallon pot or go straight into its for ever home a 3 gallon or 5 gallon pot are good choices for 3 or 4 plants a 2x2 is going to be very tight just a fyi it can definitely be done but youl have to do alot of training and possibly a scrog method I personally for most beginners recommend a 3x3 or 4x2 tent as it allows to grow 2 to 4 plants fairly comfortably training still a must imo as far as how your plants look they are up and stretching for the light you can lower the light to about 20in from the top of the plants and that will slow down on the stretch also for soil alot use Fox farms soil its fairly cheap as does good job I’ve used it on many grows there Fox farms Happy Frog soil that is good for starting seedlings in and there’s also Ocean forest that’s has a fair amount of nutrients in it to take your plant out 3 to 4 weeks with just watering alot of us on here also use Jacks Nutrients for our plants its a simple 3 part feed that can be used in soil or hydro and is cheap and last a long time also another fyi ypu need to make your decision now on what medium you want to grow in those seedlings need to be transplanted like a day or 2 ago lol
I don’t know what nutrients you’ve selected, but if you go with Jacks 321, calcium is in the recipe. Coco and soil both are the same schedule for the most part, but coco has faster growth.
Stretching that is occurring is because the light is too far away. I would move it closer, but how close is based in the light.
Solid advice above too.
Let’s not forget tho lol coco takes a bit more consistent care watering every day and feeding every day as to where soil retains alot more water and holds onto nutrients you can water soil once every 2 to 3 days i cant speak on coco much as im starting my 1st grow in coco as we speak so im learning coco also haha
Good deal.
Light needs to be closer. You’ll need to support those and bury them deeper in the pot when you transplant.
Any good organic soil will do. Several good recommendations above. I personally like Fox Farm’s Happy Frog. I mix my own soil but still use their dry amendments.
That part is figured as a noob. Reading more and more yep, should have been planted. I really am learning more on the fly as I could have started the E-journal a week ago, maybe would have helped me further know the process. And good recommend for the tent. Another fella suggested the 4x2, which I have on layaway.
Another good mix is fox farms happy frog mixed with a organic dry fertilizer mix called Earth Dust you apply some to the soil when you transplant and top dress more before flower and all you do is water no mixing of nutrients id recommend the occasional feeding of microbes tho to keep that soil working and doing its job over all there’s a TON of options out there I personally will recommend new growers to soil just because its a bit forgiving compared to other grow medium biggest things to invest in is good lighting, good simple nutrients, good growing medium, and a good ph and ppm meter
How do you support something this gentle? I felt yes, planting a little deeper when i do transplant. Fox Farm is at all my local stores so i may go with it. My question still stands, do you premix your nutrients, or drizzle on top??
Very carefully. I use stiff wire.
If you bury it deep enough (and lower your lights) you won’t have to worry about it…
Welcome to the community
I am guessing you have liquid nutrients. You add them to the water. There should be recommended amounts to feed. Fox farm has a schedule to follow.
But no nutrients until they are ready. Haha @Flitme had you finna feed tonight! Lmao.
Welcome to ILGM @Dabzzmn tons of solid advice above. Get those gals (and their peat pods) tucked into a solo cup (with drainage holes galore) with soil stat. Bury that stem and… wait Spectra Light? Can you find a pic of it on amazon? And how close are you running it?
Hopefully he’s talking about the Viparspectra p1000 if so its a solid little 100w light but we will see what he has
Oops I forgot to add that part to my reply.
Im meddling. Got ur back tho
I replied to The1st timer for the light. I was using Rapid Startr Rooting Enhancer as guided by the local store. Yea I dont think I had the best person for help so ergo, why i am here asking for the help. I plan to have them planted by end of day today.
After reading there description on Amazon this is a very insufficient light at best its only pushing 100w of power max! Unfortunately alot of over seas light manufacturers use false advertising and information to push there products as this light will work for your seedlings and possibly a few weeks of growth it will not be adequate for flower at all if you’d like a budget friendly option id would look into the Viparspectra line there P series line is very budget friendly and there new XS series line isn’t far off either I run 2 of there P2000 units in my 4x2 total of 400w power what ever you do from here id highly recommend not getting anymore blurple lights as they are a big thing of the past and are extremely outdated you’d better better off running hps and mh bulbs with a hood but led is 100% they way to go if you’d like some good recommendations for lights just lmk
I may be helpful for the few weeks of growth at best then. I will have to bite the bullet and go with american made lighting huh. Ill maybe give it 21 days of trail and send it back lol.
Id order something along the lines of an HLG 100, 120, 200… the 65 if I had too, then ship that back post haste. Ur plants WILL thank you later
If you plan on getting a bigger tent you could always keep it as a seedling light for the 2x2 it should work fairly well for this purpose if not definitely get your money back if you are able to also there are some over seas lighting manufacturers that are good it can just be hit or miss if you go with HLG like stated above by @PurpNGold74 you will not be disappointed high quality and amazing customer service
