7.5 foot tall indoor auto?

I have this auto that is trying to push 7.5 tall indoors. I used 4 LST clips on the main stem to try and keep it under 6 ft tall.

Usually the autos I grow stay like 3-4 foot tall max. Is it normal for an auto to get this large? Didn’t really have room for one this big…

Only thing i could think of is supercropping.

Looks massive for an auto :flushed::muscle::muscle:

What lights? is it stretching from being under-lighted?
Snip the terminal (apical) buds and let the lowers fill out.
I wish I could do my height, let alone 7.5 feet.
Dreams I could have.

This has one of those cheap viper specta 240W lights on it, about 16” away at 100%. I thought that was maybe it as well, but it just grew taller faster when I put the light closer. I removed a bunch of the lower stuff.

I used the photon app to keep the PPFD at 600 until it showed pre flower, then Bumped it up to 1,100 for flower. It’s still reaching a bit but from my understanding anything over 1,100 should be avoided without added co2. This is with a 16/8 light cycle.

I’ve had to use several lights for the different height plants because of how tall this one is, the others that started the same way are still about 4 foot tall.

4x4x6.5 tent

My tent heater V1200 (525watts Veg/bloom switches, both on together).
My Grow light HLG350R (330 watts max).
Both measure the same output light (60KLUX, at 25inches, below).
The big difference, ViparSpectra V1200 using 525 watts and HLG using only 200 watts (step 5/10). Both were Kil-a-watt meter measured.
My Garage needs both in the same tent for heat and full spectrum light blasting.

For the one I cut off, should it be the tip only, or the entire branch?

Yeah this one puts off the heat too, beats the other budget lights though so I went with it. I’ll probably get a few more of them to be honest depending on how these grows with it. I have a 4x4x80 tent elsewhere I was going to put two of them in for a total of 480W, heat is a concern though. I intended on 4 photos in that tent.

My Garage is un-heated, except for the system of hardware designed for growing, I hope.
Lights OFF, currently.
Lights ON will require tending and PNW Weather for winter.

Your question, answered, Just the terminal bud with enough attached, for hang-dry-smoke test (3-inches of material for hang)
Downside can be the plant is not happy.

I favor selective harvesting, over bush hang.
I tend the buds as smaller to avoid mold/rot.
Still working for “big” buds

I wouldn’t trim/ prune it. Just leave it be otherwise you risk stressing the plant and you don’t want to stress it during flowering if you can help it.

The fact it’s flowering means it shouldn’t get much bigger now so leave it be.

Most autos can reach 4 to 6 feet but if someone crossed its ancestors with something bigger, it might be a giant throwback. A bit like a short family with a really tall son

Yeah it seems to have stopped growing in height, except the main branch I keep bending over so I think maybe it has.

That makes total sense, threw me for sure as I didn’t anticipate the size being an auto.

You can tie the branch down a bit so it’s not as close to the light. Or put lights around the sides of the plant and reduce the light from above or raise the light above while adding lights to the sides.

This plant went from drinking a gallon a day to a gallon every 5 days. Is this normal?

Plants drink less the closer they get to harvest. :v:

Thank you. I don’t think I’m close to harvest though, it’s only been flowering for about 3 weeks. Still okay you think?

That is a different story…kinda…My big girls in flower get watered every 4-5 days. I dont think theres still anything to worry about if your plant is still lookin healthy.

What size bag are you in? Using soil right?

Everything seems fine to me, it’s a 3 gallon fabric bag on an auto pot.

It went from seedling to massive quick growth, threw out buds quickly then just kind of stopped, it’s drinking about as much as it did when it was smaller.

Not familiar with auto pots unfortunately.

Maybe @OGIncognito can help answer that better. Sorry growmie

Thanks for the tag Brother, @Bubblegumfreak their appetite increases during the stretch and several weeks after then slows way down the last few weeks leading up to harvest. Early to mid flower with 2 plants in 3 gallon bags on my auto pots typically consume around 8 gallons a week :love_you_gesture:

After reading this I started looking into it more because that is much more than what she’s drinking. then the leafs bottom up started going yellow. I know this is a sign of the end, but this one shouldn’t be close to done.

I went to move the pot to replace the wick in my auto pot, and the thing was dried out!

Turns out the wick had went bad, stopped letting water flow through it.

Replaced the wick and it soaked up about 3/4 a gallon, topped it up again and it’s been drinking about 1/4 a gallon a day since. Which seems more appropriate based on your results. Sucks this happened but hopefully it’ll recover.

The 8 gallons a week is from the start of the flower transition to week 8 or so. Bottom wicking systems using a cord will be much slower than auto pots. The wicking cord is the only thing supplying water and an auto pot has a tray with water that the bags or pots sit in Growmie :love_you_gesture:

Haha, I didn’t realize sorry. I’m not entirely sure where I came up with that.

I looked up actual auto pots and seems like a good investment for sure.

I went with these to see if it would regulate my watering, starting out I messed that up quite often.
