5 gallons of soil in 7 gallon fabric pots

I am currently using 7 gallon fabric pots but I’ve only been filling them with 5 gallons of soil. Is this “bad” or does it cause some unforeseen problems when I’m using a bigger pot with less soil? I’m just wondering if this could cause any issues that I’m not aware of. My initial thought when getting the 7 gallon fabric pots was maybe someday I’ll only want to grow 2 big plants instead of four or five medium sized ones. So I opted for the bigger pots. But as I thought about it I didn’t know if that was the right decision …if it wasn’t I’ll just go get 5 gallon fabric pots and use those for my next grow. Thank you all for help and time. Happy growing.

It’s fine. I’ve actually underfilled pots before and never seen an issue.
Cannabis likes a wider area vs a deeper one.

Do they really I got some really wide 4 gallon fabric pots(by accident i was just trying to get a middle ground between 3-5 gallons for autos) maybe it was a blessing in disguise

I do the same at times And just fold down the top rim a bit

When it comes to pots, imho, they can be too small but never heard problems due to being “too big”.

Thank you for your post. I appreciate it. It’s funny you mention how they like a wider area versus a deeper one. This morning when I was doing a little reading online I came across that same type of information as you shared with me. Makes me feel a little better . Thanks!

I’m thinking like you. I’m guessing it worked out well for me too haha I’ll take it as a lucky win for me. Happy growing.

Thank you for the tip of folding down the rim. I honestly did not think about that and have just been bending it over as I water into my plants/pots. Especially when they were just getting higher than the edge of the pot. Thank you for the post I appreciate it. Happy growing and good luck

That’s awesome. I’m going to think of what you said as A good “rule of thumb” sort of thing. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Good luck with your growing

In doing that I have multiple sizes of smart pots this harvest was half 7 gal half 15gal but folding down the rim can help make ur pot wider then taller. Obviously you can never get it wider then how it’s made but instead of having a stout cloth bag it’s allowed a little more wiggle room on the sides

That little extra room comes in real handy when watering.
