5 gallon bucket drain hols

Here’s a newbie question…

How many and what size holes to drill in 5 gallon buckets for water drainage?

A lot. How my large pots look. Bigger than a 5 gal bucket. 10 gallon pots. Actual closer to 8. But should give an idea.

My other is done neater with spirals. I was in a hurry that day.

As many as you can and still hold the soil.

I used 3/8.
Up the sides too. It’ll help with aeration and drying of the soil.

So, with the holes in the buckets I take it there is a fair amount of run-off… if that is the proper term. Do you reclaim the run-off to use it next time or just down the drain?

Straight to the drain.
And too. Keep your pots raised an in or 2 so they don’t sit in it.
