Well… Its March… Seedlings are started for an outside Summer time grow…
Let the fun Begin
I grew many years outdoors in the southern tier of NYS.I would set plants out after Memorial Day,even then frost was still possible in early June.Just a heads up for you.
The biggest issue was the rain and humidity at the finish. If you can have a plan to protect them.
Wind can be an issue as well. But now that it’s legal there you have so many more options.Hope you have a very warm and dry fall.
We used to grow some awesome indica under the radar of course.Back in the days of the Clinton administration he cut the funding for aircraft surveillance which helped growers out huge.
Looking awesome so far, can’t beat rock wool cubes
I’ve got three Afghani seeds soaking right now.
Thanks for the feedback on the challenges of outdoor grows. Especially your comments on the climate issues in the Fall in upstate NY. As the grow progresses you will see the ability to move and shelter the future maturing girls from the ravages of Fall’s winds and rain…
Don’t expect to see the same grow results as past tent grown girls… See other posts. But part of the fun of this summer outside grow, will be the shock factor when uptight friends visit and see cannabis growing openly on the deck.
Do have great seedlings results using the kid’s old aquarium, lights & simple humidity / temp controller with venting fan setup.
As you can see, winters still not willing to let go.
Different region, same.land scape and 11 f at the moment
What fruit you got brewing out in that field?
Love the aquarium reuse. I use bigger ones outside as cold frames all the time. I will be watchhing and enjoying your grow.
I, also, will be watching. And like sir @Bentstick , I live in a temperature deficient area as well. I am curious are these autos or photos?
Established Apple, 7 Pear… The Just a bunch of apple / cherry / peach babys that were gifts…
These gals are the last of ILGM - “GrandDaddy Purple” - photo’s…. There is a full 6, almost 7 months, till the 24’ Fall first frost. So have plenty of time for them to Veg… and Flower…
If the weathered turns bad earlier than expected, have a protected south facing sun / green- house like room the girls can be quickly moved too.
The problem that I had last year was that feel that my outdoor grow had plenty of time in veg, but mid-Sept is equinox and my first frost is around late-Oct, giving me about 7 weeks of flower.
I will be doing autos outdoors and a few photo inside.
Agreed… The correct choice for an outside grow in upstate NY is “Auto’s”. Just had the 4 GDP photos seeds… They are going to have a great start in the grow tent before being moved outside… Per above … Lots of the fun will be…“Just having Cannabis growing on the deck”…
I live near the Catskills but much closer to the Mid-Hudson Valley. We didn’t get the snow yesterday that you did but it was definitely still not good with all this damn rain. I grew A Lot of photos outdoors last summer. Was able to harvest a lot of it but still lost a lot to mold and high winds. I generally try to choose varieties that flower 9 weeks max and even that can be too long here. It appears that you’ve already got a great handle on what to do in inclement weather to keep your girls safe. I hope you keep us updated!
The only solution that I come up with is growing in 5 to 7 gal pots and bring into the 3-season porch after Labor Day. I do have a few mothers going, I may toss a clone out there to test the waters,
@Jake3
I live in Mpls, We’ll try to send you some more rain and snow, it’s on the way
Haha. No thanks. I’m about to go outside and put my greenhouse cover back on so I can get my cool weather veggies going. Currently 42f here and sunny.
If you did want to try a photo up north here, there are couple options that I have found:
Has Spring found you yet?
ILGM GDP… “Photo’s”… Seeds started 3-12…
Girls are screaming to get out of their 4" square Rockwool cages and explode into womanhood…
They are just going to have to wait a few more days as their 30 gallon, Coco Fiber “Accommodations” are readied …
And I expect that the outdoor will require two hands?!
I was outside yesterday, working on fastening chain-link to a DIY kennel frame. State requires a locked enclosure and besides, chain-link repels dinosaurs that come in the night a steal your weed. Still do not have the confidence to grow anything outdoors yet.
