2 days old seedlings

So i planted 4 white widow autos, the light was 35 inches away but with the correct ppfd of around 300, 1 of them started stretching badly so i lowered the light with a slightly higher ppfd of 350. Can a seedling stretch even if the correct ppfd is there, if the light is to far away? I think the soil is definitely a little hot forgot to flush before plantijg

Each plant is going to have a little variation of what it prefers. Some may stretch, some may stay a little squatty. But general rule of thumb, seedling stretch is most commonly due to inadequate or insufficient lighting.

Your seedlings look good for 2 days old. Give them another day or 2 and if that little main stem keeps going and starts leaning s lot or trying to fall, you can lower the light and add a little of your medium to support.

Yeah thats a good idea i just know how important the seedling stage is as well. Im glad they look good. Can potassium or phosporous also make em stretch? Medium had a lot of it

Nope. Lighting is the key. You can reduce stretch by increasing light intensity. You can go higher than 300 PPFD if you wish. The only time a light is too close is if it is so close that the heat from the light affects the plant. Light burn is otherwise a myth.

Thats very interesting ive always followed the ppfd charts so ill give a bit more light to em they seem to love it anyways lol

Dropping your light a bit probably took care of it but if they get a bit gangly and want to fall over you can pile dirt around the stem to hold them up. It will not cause any harm doing this.

In fact the buried stem will even start to grow extra roots just like a tomato plant :v: i just did this with my seedlings which were much leggier than these.

No doubt. Seedlings are stressful but they let you play along if you’re paying attention sometimes lol. A lot of upside down tap roots recently in here being talked about.

Ill keep that in mind if they get to bad dropping the light seemed to help a lot those adjustable hangers were well worth the money
