I just wanted to conclude my post and the different experiments that I utilized in making bubble hash.
I’ve made bubble hash many times with the five different micron level base path method utilizing Frenchies wine bottle water pressing technique. It works just fine and always has.
The beginning
I started this mission with about 1/4 of a big mason jar bottles filled with clean light tan 150 micron kief from trim tray cleaning.
I had about 3 oz of trim that I wanted to run back through the trim tray 150 micron filter and then I wanted to make some hash by simply rolling it out with hot boiling water wine bottles.
The Major F-up!
All of my trim I was screening was incredibly dry (first mistake) I accumulated about seven tablespoons of kief from all my trim getting run back through the trim tray.
I then mixed it all together with my existing mason jar of nice clean kief. (Second major mistake) Because of my eyesight I didn’t realize that the new kief that I added to my old Kief was actually severely contaminated with over grinding my trim causing plant matter to powder up and fall through the 150 micron filter.
This turned all of my kief totally green and would not melt due to how much plant matter it was contaminated with.
THE FIX
I decided the only way I have a chance of recovering my kief was to run it through a fine bag micron ice bath procedure. My hopes is that everything would separate and I could regain my goodies.
I ran about an entire 10oz bottle of kief and 2 oz of trimming that I had in the freezer through the ice bath 5 gallon bucket technique. I took 8 hours to run it through six times (yes six times)
To my surprise it worked perfectly I ended up accumulating a bunch of…
160 Micon (I tossed it)
120 micron (I saved)
75 micron & 25 micron (I mixed together)
THE EXPERIMENT
I wanted to try to use a iron to press the hash versus Frenchy’s hot water wine bottle technique
For me, The Iron worked out much better. My struggle with frenchy’s technique was…
1.) having to keep heating up the bottle
2.) having to keep boiling water
3) working with an extremely hot wine bottle requiring gloves.
4.) having the bottle pop out and spin off the table because you’re applying so much pressure.
The Amazing Conclusion
I went to the thrift store and bought a $7 Rivel Iron and a $1.75 Dough Rolling Pin
If you set the iron three clicks before acrylic on your irons dial it heats the iron to 152° f I double check this with a handheld mechanics digital thermometer gun for 100% total accuracy.
I took a section of a plastic cooking/roasting bag and put two tablespoons of 75 micron freshly washed and dried bubble hash keif stuff and folded the plastic wrap in half.
I then placed the folded plastic wrap inside a slice of parchment paper and folded it in half.
I gently ran the iron over the parchment paper applying a little pressure for approximately 45 seconds. I then flipped the paper over and repeated for an additional 45 seconds.
I then use the rolling pin applying much more pressure and started rolling the nice warm bubble hash as it easily started to flatten I opened everything up folded it in three times and repeated the above process.
After doing this for 20 minutes totaling four times I was able to easily press the hash between my fingers and form these little squares. (I don’t like the balls for some reason)
The squares came out into little solid as a rock perfect hash squares.
I then tried the exact same thing on the 120 micron bubble hash. It came out perfect as well except it had the darker black hash look to it because it’s 120 micron
I have tons left to do then we’ll do it at my convenience over time.
What made it easier
1.) the rolling pin can take more pressure than a wine bottle.
2.) the rolling pins handle is far more controllable than a hot wine bottle.
3.) 152° f iron melts the hash perfectly leaving it nice and warm as you roll it with a pin
4.) the exact same results as a wine bottle boiling water procedure with none of the mess and aggravation.
I broke off a little piece and gave it to my guest last evening. After two hits she was couch locked. Mission accomplished
Note:
The finished hash will be stored in the refrigerator for drying and curing. (That’s how I’ve done it in the past)
Thank you all for your input as well. I’m truly grateful!
