When the seed description says “21 ounces per plant”, is that trimmed bud or total weight of the plant?
Welcome to the forum.
These estimates are wildly inaccurate from a hobby grower’s perspective and should be ignored. The estimates are based on a professionally managed grow in an optimal environment and conducted by experienced growers… Plant productivity depends on the grower’s experience and the budget available for optimizing the growing environment. A new grower will get a few ounces from a typical grow and an experienced grower will get a pound from their plants, regardless of the seed seller’s estimates.

Thank you, I thought that sounded a little high!
You can use those yield figures in a general way to determine possible plant size compared to others. That one would be in the ‘high yield’ category.
I’m hoping to get a couple of ozs. on my first plant. This would be dry weight from the mature buds, I also plan on tracking the weight of the pruning and thinning. These leaves might not pack the punch of a mature bud, BUT, I can only hope the leaves I trim are smokable and buzz worthy. Minnesota growmie!
If I can get 3 ounces of trimmed bud per plant I would be absolutely stoked!
My average for autos is 2 oz dry trimmed buds. Low of about a half ounce to over 4 close to 5 total for a plant. I do not count any early, test, “sample” buds or the leaves and trim. I save all my trim and use Bubble Bags to make hash.
If you have good equipment (lights), good genetics (ILGM) and good practices (this forum), you won’t have any problem.
A couple of things: use photoperiod plants, not autos. You have much more control and can recover from any issues you may develop as a new grower.
Buy good lights. This will be your single largest purchase and you can’t cheap out. I always recommend Horticulture Lighting Group as a place to start.
Ask questions: this forum is here to cater to new growers as well as very experienced ones. Feel free to ask and take time to look at peoples’ grow journals.
I expend very little effort growing in my basement. I only did two plants this year because I’m in good shape with stored flower. One plant did 12 oz. and the other 14. That’s dried manicured flower. The two plants were grown in coco using autopots and fed with Jack’s 3-2-1. Lights are homemade, as is the grow space. Neither plant exceeded 30 inches of total height:
WOW! Thanks for the insight! That grow looks delicious!
What is this growing in it looks like a nice center piece for the kitchen table ![]()
What the breeder states as yield is dried and trimmed. You’ll never hit what they say. Lucky to get half.
3 gallon fabric pot.
