WW-Auto harvest

I’m new and this is my first auto flower grow it’s White widow I’m at day 75 my question is I’ve researched to death about when to harvest and read everything but my concern is the big bud on the top is finished all pistols are brown there is enough amber in the trichomes but it says to wait and check mid way down the plant and around 80 percent of the pistols should be brown at harvest. It looks like my top is done and half way down the plant needs two more weeks the pistols on the buds mid way down are white with a couple orange hairs

You can do a partial harvest.

I just want to make sure I can wait and the top bud which is the largest and most of the plant starts dropping it’s THC I’m not sure how fast that happens

Hi Bubba, it’s recommended to wait until 80% of pistils on buds have turned brown before harvesting. Timing of maturity can vary. If top bud is done and mid-way buds aren’t ready, it is okay to wait a couple more weeks for the rest of the plant to mature. THC content will stay high.

THC decreases based on factors like temp, humidity and light exposure. Make sure to monitor the trichomes and wait until majority are amber for peak potency when harvesting.

I’ve grown many ILGM WW, photos and autos. Go ahead and chop that main cola if it has the % of amber trichs you want. It won’t hurt the maturation of those lower buds. Keep you eye on their trichs and chop them when you want. Happy harvest man!

I’ve got all that down the top is a good 40-50 amber but midway down is no amber but half white half clear I didn’t know you can chop the top bud off and the rest of the plant will keep going

It will keep going.

@bubbac61 you can cut the mature buds from the top of plant and clear the branches and leaves to allow better light penetration to the lower portion of the plant. And the lower buds will continue to grow and ripen and can be harvested a week or two later.

Also, if you partial harvest, remember to adjust you light accordingly.

Awesome I’m going to hold off a couple days see if midway down turns cloudy if they don’t I’ll take the top off it

Welcome @bubbac61
Partial harvest is an option for sure. However, I was just thinking  that I have seen very few growers who complained of “waiting too long”. It is always “harvested too early” if there are any complaints. The buds will continue to put on weight even after they “look done”.

Agree with the others.
Also, as an experiment, you could also take off a mid/lower bud, maybe a smaller bud, that has cloudy trichomes (cloudy, NOT clear trichomes, lol, those are racy/unpleasant), just to see how you like cloudy on that strain, or any strain.

Welcome to the forum and to growing (or maybe only the first time with autos) !

You’re gonna get addicted! To growing and seeds! I went from one 4x4 tent 20 months ago to adding a 4x8, a 2x4, a 2x2 and was gifted a 3x3 last month! I’d never grown inside before and I really like the control over the grow environment you don’t get outside.

And if it wasn’t for this forum and the knowledge of the gromies, I’d never gotten this far!
