Wicking tubs - Growing with Leon

So, I was cruising YouTube and found Leon. What a wonderful character.

He uses “wicking tubs” - basically, large containers with a space in the bottom that allows soil to wick up water from the bottom.

Anybody here try these for their outdoor grows?

I really like how they

1. allow for big grows
2. self-water
3. don’t drown the plant

I want to make sure these are appropriate for cannabis.

My father in law does these for tomatoes. Grows GIANT tomato plants. He did have problems with the water getting HOT!! It was southern Oklahoma though.
