Which Miracle-Gro should I pick?

Greetings one and all

I have some questions about fertilizers that
I don’t know and hope the forun can help me
with.

My wife has a garden and uses Miracle-Gro
Plant Food as a fertilizer so I have a choice
between two, the “ALL PURPOSE” that is
N 24% P 8% K 16% or the “TOMATO” that has a
value of N 18% P 18% K 21%.

My first grow is Purple Kush. The grow is
three weeks old and my questions are:

  1. At what age should I start fertilizing
    the plants?
  2. Which of the two choices would you recommend?
Should I mix 1/2 tsp to one gallon of water
for indoor plants or 1 tbsp to one gallon
of water for use in a watering can. Those were
    the Miracle-Gro directions?
  3. Can the choice from question 2) be used without
dilution or should it be diluted further?
  4. What volume of fertilizer should I add to
    each plant and how often?

These pictures were taken on 25 JUN 2022.
This is the first time I have tried sending
pictures, hope all goes well.

Thanks for reading my ramblings and for any
wisdom you might supply.

Miracle Gro is very problematic for growing cannabis. Both the soil and nutrients are not buffered for the PH range cannabis needs, the soil usually has ‘moisture retention’ materials (bad) and the salts are harsh and long-lasting.

So my first question is: what soil are you currently growing in?

There are any number of great cannabis-optimized soils like Fox Farms, Roots Organics, Pro Mix, Black Magic etc. Nutrients from Fox Farms to Jack’s are all readily available. Many of us use Jack’s 3-2-1 mix as it’s economical, user-friendly and is about ideal for cannabis.

Miracle grow is typically too hot for cannabis.

Tomato at least has decent numbers but you’ll be dealing with deficiencies all the time especially in flower time, as a former organic grower do yourself a favor and pick up some part a an b of jacks 321

Hi there and welcome to the neighborhood :grinning:
Your plants look nice and healthy. I would definitely use the Fox farm ocean and Jack’s 321. Very easy to use. with FF you don’t have to add nutes til about the 5th week from transplant . You will be a happy farmer.

Thanks for the advice. The potting mix is what my wife uses for her gardening. It is Berger BM7 Potting Mix. This is a link about it.

I’ll look into the Jacks 321. Really appreciate your post

Look at the Strain of the Month contest and the others. You will love Jack’s 321. You can see ILGM genetics and many are switching to Jacks.

Welcome!!
Try one of these other mixes from Berger 5 or 6. Less bark.

I would recommend jacks. If you have to use miracle grow i would say use the tomato feed. Just make absolutely sure you flush your plants hard for at least a week before harvest. There’s something about miracle grow that makes weed harsh.

Its called time released nutrients. So every time you water, you literally just bombarded your plant. Time release is not good for cannabis plants. Especially Miracle Gro.

So flushing will be even worse as you will really hit the plant with so much nutrients you will ruin the taste. So not the best idea to flush over and over at the end.

Best tasting weed I have had is to never use any nutrients for the entire grow. Even my two serious taste testers wanted to know why it was so good. The green hit was every puff. Died out…lit back up and it was like a green hit every puff. Why I hate joints. They get foul. But this run is the complete opposite. Just pure goodness and no harshness.

Hello and welcome personally its not advised to use any MG products for growing. But in my experience if you have the soil you can make due with it. You just have to mix it and delute it i grew some great white widows in part MG i had about a 40/60 ratio with soil from my side yeard another trick to help make MG soil work for you is before transplanting your plant into it run alot of water through it to try and help get rid of some of there time released nuts they have thays what i did and i had luck. But to not have any worries get Fox Farm happy frog and use the fox farm nuts and you should have good luck!

I have to use miracle grow potting mix its all our hardware store carries! But I make it work and have good history here to show, I will admit it has its problems, but you can grow some good weed and dried and cured right you get smooth smoke.
I don’t use mg fertilizers, I have been using organic nutes, but changing to jacks next grow. Your girls are looking awesome keep up the good work

jacks !
keep it simple

You can also go to fox farms website to find a store locator near you that sells there products. I found one 10 min away. Worth a try over miracle gro

Have a quick question about Jack’s 32 plant food.
Jack’s instructions say:
To mix up the perfect blend of Jack’s 321
you will need:
3.6 grams Part A
2.4 grams Part B
1.1 grams of Epsom salts

Does this mean I will need scales to weigh the ingredients?

Most growers weigh there dry nutes yes. You could measure it out with teaspoons but its obviously not exact. Not sure the equivalents, but with my ocd, im weighing it. You can buy a cheap digi on amazon for 10 to 15 bucks, make sure it does at least one decimal point. Hope this helps

I had a really great harvest using miracle grow performance organics …in ground soil …but used it in containers …at one point I had to add nitrogen because the plant turned lime green …however it isn’t cannabis friendly …and I won’t use it again rookie error but my herb was fire lol …I used the FF liquid trio and cal mag …and when flowering the water soluble bloom boosters …
