I’ve been doing a couple harvest of my own now and i get seeds in my harvest but when i go to replant they dont look like they are going to germinate & the question im asking is when is the best time to pluck seeds to ensure they will germinate?
Im not sure exactly how long it takes but they turn darker as they mature.
Any I’ve ever gotten, I don’t pluck them untill after the plant has been harvested and they have dried out. But the dark ones will germinate for me though.
Same here. I waited until harvest and drying was done, picked them out as I trimmed.
@GardenDan @1HappyPappy yeah but its like after i pick them after harvest or during cure they all look incomplete like the root started & stopped inside of seed i will magnify a pic on here later
@GardenDan @1HappyPappy … looks like they been popped already … and this is during cure…
All my seeds looks like this … if i pluck before harvest if i pluck while trimming or if i pluck while its dryin they all still looks like they’ve been pre popped
Have you tried germinating them?
@GardenDan yes … i put 5 in soil neither popped after 4 days … it normally only takes my seeds a day in a half to sprout out the soil because i use vivosun heat mat to help germinate … so after 4 day i dug all the seeds out of soil … all seeds still looked the same way i put them in there … all the seeds that germinate doesn’t look pre popped …
When i say pre popped im meaning there is a hole on the seed like it tried to open on its on … versus seed that dont have a hole … all those for sure have germinated for me … i really want to know why
I’d like to know why too. I’ve never heard someone mention this happening to weed seeds. I’ve seen examples of bell peppers or even strawberries where the seeds germinated while still on the mother plant, but it’s a rare event.
How many seeds you got? Willing to try a few germination methods to see what’s happening? Have you tried the paper towel, or water soak methods to germinate them so you can watch them without digging them up? I know some people say seeds have taken up to two weeks to germinate in soil. I’ve done the same thing, dug around in the soil when they didn’t come up soon enough.
No i haven’t tried paper towel … all the seeds i bought germinated… i had like 60 blueberry seeds i got off 3 plants but i plucked them while trimming and put them in this small ziploc … came back weeks later to plant more & they all wer molded … im guessing because i left some of the green shells around the seed with the bag close and i guess the shells still had moisture in them … but normally after 3 days and nothing im digging in the soil to see whats the hold up … either it didn’t germinate or its having trouble coming through… due to planting to deep… with the heat mat it will never take 2 weeks to germinate … i plant … put it on the mat & a day in a half later either the seed is coming out or u might see the stem starting to come up first due to heat from bottom & trying to reach oxygen from top
These wer planted a day and a half ago
They all have those holes in them so i threm them to the side
From my experience sometimes mine pop up in just a day or 2 but it’s quite often they take up to 5-7 days, sometimes even longer using a heat and rockwool or peat pods. At 7 days is when i start to dig around to see what’s going on
Did they look like this on the end?
@1HappyPappy yes they looks exactly like that … and so far i haven’t had 1 that took that long … im doing autos … i have grown maybe 17 plants plus these 4 just sprouted
This is absolutely normal.
That is the part where the seed is physically attached to the plant, like this tomato here.
The spot that looks like a hole is kinda like a “belly button”. It’s where it was attached to It’s mother…
The seeds may be legit nuds but the “holes” on the end shouldn’t actually be holes but do rather look like it kinda…
Maybe look at them with a magnifying glass
I’d try to germinate them again if it was me and give them more time.
