Seeds sprouting out of Buds!

Hi group, so I have some very serious questions that I need some expert answers for. I have been growing outdoors, and I’m in Virginia. I’m about 8 weeks into flower, we are getting Torrential rain, and one of my bigger plants is sprouting seeds. Yes that’s right, I have pics for you all. This is some kind of crazy occurrence. Now, do I just remove the seed pods and let it keep going, in the rain? Or do I go ahead and, harvest immediately. What will this do to the potency of the THC? I have heard it will not produce anymore once the seed pods appear. Please answer as soon as you guys can, as I think time is of the essence. Thank You guys and gals

Yeah, I’ve never seen it either. Your plant must be consistently wet for that to happen.

It’s a female, but it has somehow been pollinated.

This is only sort of true. “Seed pods” are just female calyxes. It is the case that once you are 5(ish) weeks into flowering the plant will stop growing new foliage. New calyxes (and thus new trichomes) are possible right up until harvest. They are called foxtails in some cases.

Seeded plants typically possess less THC. I would let her finish. It is still smokable. You just have to deal with seeded weed.

Hi Midwest, Thank You for your reply! Ok so you have said let it go until the end, which I would have believed is near. But, rain has moved in, we have had 5 days of no-stop rain. I would like to know in extremely soaked conditions if she will even produce anymore THC? Will it be worth taking a chance on bud or root rot? I have heard once she is pollinated she will not produce THC anymore? I would like to make a judgement call on her today, as we have a lot more rain in the forecast. Thanks MidwestGuy

That is super bizarre, I had to do a double take. The guys have you covered.

Rain is not going to inhibit THC production. You can pull it now, but you will have reduced THC.

It’s your decision. The best we can do is give you the best information with which to make your choice. You’ll have to weigh the options of reduced THC or risking bud rot.

Here’s a video that quantifies the THC impact of harvesting early.

Hi merlin44, and yes it’s my understanding it’s Super Bizarre. I see your with Bergmans Lab, do you guys with the lab do growing as well? And I would like to know how many years of experience you folks with the lab have? I have a roommate that is an old time grower, that thinks he knows it all, I’m sure you know the type. Even he says he has never seen this in the last 40-50 years. And I want to THANK everyone in the group for the reply’s. I know Wisdom is Knowledge.:sunglasses:

Haha. Just when you think you’ve seen everything…

The lab is just a now defunct ILGM forum that was a little more serious than this one is.

The collective of growers here have many, many decades of grow experience.

That’s a first for me! I thought she was hermie, but I see those are tails. Pop them out and put them in some cups, see what they do…

The good news @Internetmaster2u is that you have an excellent germination success rate. :joy:  :man_mage: Just look at all of those tails! :joy:

Yes folks I have never seen or heard of anything like this either, but I’m a newbie also. And this is also a kind of freak occurrence here in Virginia to be getting this much rain at this time of the year. I really need everyone’s collective experience with outdoor grows on if I should let this girl go? Or take her down? Right now the tricomes are clearish to slightly clouding, and I would love milky with a 20-30% Amber! I’m not sure if that’s possible with all of this rain? Thank You for the reply’s.

I have only been growing for about six years and exclusively indoor so I am not much help. I am watching with intense interest.

I have not ever seen this either. Those seeds are actually sprouting! That is probably from being wet for a long period of time…

While a full-on seeded female plant will reduce thc production, I’ve had plants with just a few seeds (maybe 20-30 in total), and even if the thc was reduced, it produced a very potent high! Would love to compare it to a non-seeded clone.

I would let it go. If possible pluck off those sprouted seeds so she can re-focus on thc production.

I didn’t even realize what I was seeing. I thought someone marked up the pics and was pointing to those areas. Not realizing they were germed seeds in the bud, this is my first time seeing this. Cool and Bizarre at the same time.
