I paid $40 for my ipower. It has reversible flange and base intended for extended service life, up to 2 years. This is my first go round so we’ll see what kind of mileage I get. Like most of us, I always strive to get the most bang for my buck.
heck ya. and growing weed is NOT cheap. i had no idea about that either.
Any Black Ops brand rules the day
Black Ops 746704 Carbon Filter, 6 in x 24 in, Brown/A
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZFW3FB4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VYGNDbR815384
i shoulda gotten that one based on the name alone.
I’m learning that myself. But after the initial investment it’ll be worth it. And I don’t have to worry about my number on someone’s phone if they get busted.
I believe what @AAA posted is actually a black ops filter also, just different size.
I could be wrong though
it’s a terrabloom, looks similar
I’ve been using an ipower filter. It seems to reduce the smell, but after about a year the amount of air coming through is minimal. It’s probably toast.
Here’s my question.
I’m upgrading to a 6” infinity, is it really worth it to buy a phresh filter for 3x the price of vivosun/ipower etc? Do better filters eliminate doors longer or allow more air to be vented? What’s the benefit of buying better?
hoping i’ll be able to answer that soon. my AC infinity is running at full power and can’t clear the humidity. i started at 4 and moved up to a 6” immediately and my tent is just 2x4.
but i think if you got a year out of yours that’s a pretty good return for $50. but yes all the things you listed are theoretically why you would upgrade.
I thought a carbon filter was just a carbon filter till I seen this dude on YouTube raving about his “black ops” filter so I broke down and paid the higher price and I can tell you on odors it worked great.
I’ve never used a Phresh filter but it sounds of the same quality as the black ops the way everyone is talking about them.
As far as longevity, I’ve never even had a problem with even cheap carbon filters as long as I wasnt using an oscillating humidifier with tap water in it. @Drinkslinger
But if a cheap filter last 1 year, and a good one 2 years
how long till harvest do you think?
8 weeks. Maybe more.
all i know is i only got like 10 weeks. and my fan can’t pull enough air through it. i’d be happy with one year and good air flow. maybe i got a bad one. but the 4" didn’t work for me either.
your quote didn’t come through… not sure if i responded appropriately.
i’m a moron. i just spent two hours getting this beast of a filter hung and my fan hooked up and the ducts… and i forgot to put the prefilter on got my plant hung in there drying. oh well tomorrow is another day.
Anyone try a regular carbon furnace filter as a pre-filter warped around standard carbon grow filter. Think it would help with odor or just a waste of money.Maybe extend the life of older filter.
i think the prefilters that come with the units are washable. the terrabloom actually came with two. they suggest washing and replacing every three months
i’d want to know more about the thickness or porosity or whatever the relevant hvac term is for airflow- wouldn’t want to restrict too much or it’ll drag your fan
We’re you using a humidifier in your grow room?
no, dehumidifier. summer time in the swamp.
There’s a big difference in filters. The two biggest factors are actual amount of media used and quality of filter design and assembly. If you see a filter is 6"x 24" the overall length of the filter is 24" but the 6" is just flange size for fan. The phresh 6x24" filter is actually about 10" in diameter. The difference between inner and outer walls is how thick the layer of filter media is. I believe that filter uses something like 14 pounds of active carbon.
I can’t attest to every filter, but it definitely has a lot more carbon than the cheap one I started with. The flanges and filter body are fit tight and seem to be sealed better as well.
good stuff. i had just assumed the larger flanged filters also have larger diameters. i’ll have to check it out.
if it’s any indicator of carbon volume, i had to take a shower after hanging the terribloom. half of it ended up down my shirt.
in other news, vivosuns’ customer service really is terrific and they are refunding my money for the filter.
The dust isn’t good. I feel like its inevitable there will be some, but excessive will build up on the inside of your fan and get blown all over the room your tent is in.
