What types of training should i be concerned with

Currently growing two Apple Fritter Autos as a first time grower. I purchased a scrog net because it seemed to be the lowest form of stress training possible. Are there any techniques that i should consider to increase yield? I do prefer quality over quantity so if these methods reduce quality to give yield i would rather not do them.

Low stress training is recommended with autos, however many growers have topped them like a photoperiod

. Low stress training is easy, just tie the plant down in areas, to spread it out, this can increase yields.

Is a scrog net the same thing as lst but just not as dramatic?

A scrog net is used for the later portion of lst. Tying down individual branches or the whole main stalk are what you want to do to start lst. I will train up until week two of flower then i let mine go until the end other than a leaf or two when necessary.

These girls i will be training, but they are photos , not autos. When they grow out to their 5th node, ill top em right above the third node. Ill clone the tops that i chopped, and when i start getting new growth out, ill start laying down. I use bamboo poles and the fabric pots from ACI that have the rings in the collar of the pot. Ill run my bamboo through the holes and use those as tie down spots. Then you can train to grow out as much as you want, then up…

Keep in mind that when training your auto, as soon as you see her transitioning into flower, i would stop training so she concentrates more on building bud than correcting herself from the stress.

In your experience in training autos what is the best time to do so? I’m not sure if the node information applied to just photos or not. I wanted to lst once and then leave scrog so I don’t stress my very first plant out a lot.

I wont train them anymore. Some do with great success. I stick with photo for training myself.

Thanks for the tag @ChittyChittyBangin !!

You can treat autos and photos the same just keep in mind their are on their own time frame, early is better and learning when to just let them be and do their auto stuff.

I have a grow post here you can check out, probably 5-6 full auto runs with my most current being one scrog 3x3.

I’m not as experienced as some of these other growmies but in all of the videos I’ve watched/forums I’ve read it seems like if you’re topping you want to top after the 5th node. Which a node is just the part where the leaves come out of the stem.

If you’re going to LST don’t use metal paper clips. Stick to like decorocas soft plant ties. They’re cheap and effective.

If you have a fabric pots with grommets(metal rings) in the side hook it up to that and gently tie your main branch down. This will open up light and the flow of nutrients to start forming other branches. This can be done to the new branches as well. Imo, for autos, it seems like you can do this until they start showing signs of flowering. I’d say it’s safe to do LST until around the end of the 3rd week. This should give the plant a few days to a week to recover from any stress that way she can use 100% of her energy for creating big thick dense nugs of quality.

If I’ve misspoke and put out false information please someone correct me.

Hope this helps.
