The tips. If that has just popped up since the transplant… maybe its the castings? What kind did you use. Castings should NEVER burn ur plant but just wondering.
No, there were some here and there with the burnt tips. It’s not widespread and I haven’t removed the leaves since before the transplant so I’m pretty confident that it wasn’t the transplant that did that. I don’t think that there are a bunch of new cases. I’m more concerned about the yellowing and mottled colors. They probably didn’t get as much water as they needed while I was gone but the discoloration seems excessive
Oh no, for sure. I did the neem oil spray last night and pests are at the forefront of my mind. Trust me, I’ve been combatting pests for a bit and originally I had a thrip problem, but I’m pretty sure the neem oil fixed that. These new weird bugs, however…
Do you think the yellowing could be related to these pests? Or do you think it’s more likely toxicity or deficiency? Or heck, did they just not get enough water over the few days I left them in someone else’s charge? It just seemed like things were doing a lot better and I came back to yellow/yellowing/mottled leaves some of the burnt tips I know for sure are old cases, and some MAY be new but I can’t be sure
The little dots look like mite damage. Could be other stuff going on as well. If I was outdoors I would have a few different pest control options and would cycle through them non stop. Some pests especially mites become resistant to pesticides quickly because of their fast life and reproductive cycles.
I definitely see pest damage. Sap sucking bugs. That damage done won’t go away. You sprayed with neem oil so hopefully that takes care of it. Take a look real good on the underside of your leaves with magnification for spider mites. In my past, neem oil didn’t help my spider mites problem but Captain Jack’s did. The oil residue left on the leaves from neem oil can magnify the sun and burn the leaves too so watch for that.
@DoobieNoobie and @GreenJewels I hope it’s not mites! I hear they’re a beast to get rid of! I haven’t seen any other sign of mites though, such as thin webs and what not. The only webs I’ve found I’ve traced back to the spider that made it (because it was still there). Are there other signs I can look for beyond the spots and magnification? I’ve done the neem oil, but I should get some additional methods? Captain jacks has been recommended a couple times. Am I able to safely cycle between these? I’m also planning on getting sticky strips. Any other suggestions?
@Big123 I have not. I’ve never heard of that. Do you think I should get some and try it along with additional pesticides?
@PurpNGold74 thank you for reaching out to others for help too!
Thank you for that, that was very helpful! I think it probably is a mite problem (or at least part of the problem is). I’m ordering some captain jacks and sticky strips. Hopefully those will help. I sprayed neem oil last night so by the time captain jacks is here I should hopefully be able to try that out
Would using DE, captain jacks, and the sticky strips at once be too much on the plant? I don’t want to hinder more when I’m trying to help
Hahaha I’ve seen yellow sticky strips/fly strips suggested in a few places so I thought I’d give it a try.
The DE I see is a powder (looking into buying some now). Is it agreed I should definitely get it and try it?
I wouldn’t use the neem oil and captain jacks at the same time—I’m more asking if it’ll be too much on the plant if I used the neem oil last night and either tomorrow or Wednesday use the captain jacks.
Right now I’ve got some DE, captain jacks, and sticky strips in my cart. Is there anything else anyone thinks I should get?
