Death to Min… o yea get hos lil ass! Also i love DE. As said by another ILGMer “its like walkin on razors to bugs”
Yes, DE is like razors to the bugs. When you spray make sure to thoroughly spray the underside of the leaves and repeat in 3 days and I like to repeat again in another 4 days just to be sure I killed them all. Put a layer of DE on top of your soil too.
Best this for sm I found was to neem oil and H2O2 the neem oil protects the leaf from the h2o2 and the h2o2 destroys the sm (spider mites)
Copy. I ordered it and it will be here tomorrow. So it’s actually a foliar spray to make? I thought it was just a powder to put on the soil
DE is a powder to apply to soil and some apply to leaves but not flowers. The captain Jack’s is a spray it come premixed or concentrate. I get the concentrated because you get more for your money and I also use it in my other gardening. What @BigDaddyCain cane said up there sounds good too. Thanks for that bigdaddycain. That makes sense that the oil would protect the leaves from the H2O2. The H2O2 sprays I did for bud rot on my outdoor girls sure took a toll on the leaves.
Hey everybody, I just wanted to update everybody in case you were interested or someone in the future needs help. That bug I sent a picture of (not the little tiny thing on the leaf but the other) is called a glassy-winged sharpshooter and they just KEEP STICKING AROUND. They’re too smart and when they eat my precious plants, they secrete this moisture that leaves a white residue on the plants that almost looks like powdery mildew like this:
They are the freakin’ devil! Tonight or tomorrow I’m gonna spray the DE but I’ve had some ladybugs hanging around so I’m waiting for them to leave. Just wanted to let everybody know in case you ever run into this pest
So I’m wondering what’s the best way to tell if my plants are improving. I’m worried they may have nitrogen deficiency or Nute Burn. The way the leaves are yellowing makes me think deficiency but I have some burnt tips too, which makes me think Nute Burn. I know we’ve talked about this before and while my plants seem to be ok in general (and I know that the damaged leaves won’t repair themselves) I’m still pulling off yellow leaves each day.
I just really can’t tell if these are old cases that are just maturing (to death) or if they’re new cases sprouting up. New growth seems to be looking pretty but I remember reading that nitrogen deficiency can be seen in older growth and starts from the base to the middle of the plant, which is what my plants seem to be doing. Does anyone know how I can best check this?
(They’ve been getting their normal nutrients: the recommended dose from Bergman’s Growtime once a week and the whole rest of the week they get water that’s right around 6.5–it’s been so hot and my girls are all close to 6 ft now so it’s usually 1-2 gallons every day; on Wednesday I gave them three—2 regular gallons and then a root treatment with the third gallon on top—so today they’ll probably get watered again)
I’ll tag him so he will see the above
@PurpNGold74
Hey @Budbrother @DoobieNoobie @Myfriendis410
Is this a P deficiency? They look hungry but obviously its not for N…
@BudzAldrin have those tips just been burned? Or did that happen awhile ago?
Thanks J
Is it all on lower branches? What does the top look like? That can help narrow it down a little. Also what kind of soil is it in? Because only feeding that big of a plant once a week seems like very little food for such a big plant.
Hey there. No I’ve had some burnt tips for a bit though I think it’s possible some of the smaller leaves are newer cases. That’s part of the problem—hard to tell which is which. The big leaves with burnt tips are older cases though. The yellowing keeps happening, usually towards the bottom but it’s climbing a little on some of them like this: (circled in red because it’s bright right now and hard to get clear color shots)
These are towards the top of the plant
Hey there. It’s started to climb up though it’s mainly towards the bottom. I’m sorry if these pictures aren’t what you’re looking for. They’re big and I’m short so I have to take them kind of blindly. Let me know if I need to take more. But yeah, mostly towards the bottom, some of them are running about half way. (They need water and it’s hot so the droopiness is from that). The new growth seems to be ok but it’s the yellow leaves I have to pluck off each day and the potentially new burnt tips.
They’re in Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil with a small percentage of worm castings. I was told over and over the FFOF has a lot of nutrients so I shouldn’t need to add a bunch of extra nutrients, but I was also told to take peroxide to my autos that possibly had WPM and my plants went from this:
To this:
So I’m trying to be critical of what I hear (THIS thread has been super helpful though which is why I keep coming back). Do you think I need to up the nutrients? Today is their normal feeding day. (Note: the powder on the soil is DE)
Wow, that’s a slew of pictures. I gotta be honest I just slid through 90%. Saw Calmag and N needed. Then bronzing from the wpm spray. Looks like P def in those, but probably would say NOT. More of a look to other growth and wait another week for more obvious signs. Don’t pluck the yellows, Ca is a mobile def, and you’ll only cause it to spread further and faster.
Thank you for responding. Don’t worry, I understand. I don’t know how many pictures is the right amount.
Ok so I can add some calmag to their nutrients during their regular feeding tonight. Then wait a week and see where I’m at?
Not recommended to mix with other nutes. I give calmag into one of the regular weekly watering.
@Budbrother caught what I was looking for on mobile or immobile nutes. I agree with what he said. But I think the problem is your soil is running out of nutrients. I see nitrogen and it could also be a zinc or potassium deficiency making it look like nute burn. FFOF is good for about 8 weeks of nutrients and you’re pushing 12 weeks. Only way to be certain will be to check your runoff PPMs. If I’m right you’re going to need to start feeding them. Have you already got a set of nutrients yet?
Sorry for the slow reply I got busy.
No worries. I use the recommended dose of Bergman’s growtime fertilizer which is 2/3 tsp per gallon
Ok so don’t do calmag today, I should do it with a regular watering—got it. I didn’t know that about FFOF. I had people scaring me like there were too many nutrients in it so I shouldn’t be adding much more. Do you think I should do a higher dose? Do it twice a week?
I would probably be feeding twice a week if it were me. Yeah the ocean forest should go 8 to 10 weeks but it is a little to strong for seedlings. So a lot of people put a top 3rd of the pot something gentler like happy frog. So maybe that’s what they were thinking. And yes calmag on plain water days.
Ok for sure, I’ll give it a shot and see where we’re at. Thank you so much for all your help!
I know @Sasquatch is doing a run with those nutes currently. Maybe he’ll pop out from behind a rock tree or bush if you’re patient enough.
