Hey all,
I was wonder what type of training I could be persuaded to do.
Last year I did top my plants a total of three times, but I was wondering what the general consensus on best way to increase yield through any type of training.
I’m currently rising 6 clones that are roughly 18” in 5 gal pots. They’re under my t5’s for the next two weeks, until the 21 when I’ll be moving them outside. Finally, I’ll be transplanting them from 5 gal plastic to 10 or maybe 15 gal smart pots. The medium I’m using is mainly promix feeding GH Trio. If there’s any other pertinent info required let me know, but I think I covered all my bases.
Keep in mind this is my second grow, last year was mostly a success, although a few of the clones didn’t like the topping, and stunted growth all together.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
If you’re growing outside just let them go. Training techniques are basically used to keep a plant in a certain footprint. If you have no reason for them to take up a smaller footprint than nature intended, let them do their thing and turn into trees for your best yield.
I appreciate that, but I actually am trying to keep their hight under 7’. Sorry I didn’t include that in my post. Also I live in the north east where mold is a almost expected.
If the main cola, or what will be the main starts getting too tall just gently bend it over and tie it to something. I agree with @BobbyDigital outside, a natural growing plant utilize the moving sun best
Netting them would be the good bet. Ive seen some nice outside net grows on this site. Just make the net high enough to get under it to prune. Outside I always just pulled the top over “LST”
If you anticipate moisture/mold being an issue, I would stay on top of pruning/training/spreading them to keep airflow going through them to help. But I agree with @BobbyDigital for the most part, let mother nature do her thing.
Okay guys, y’all talked me out of topping them. Think it’s ok to use a few layers of the plastic trellis horizontally?
