What is this white Gel on the roots?

Water temp is 70.2 humidity is 56%. Ph was 7.09, now its 6.75. I just did a water change and fed Nutrients yesterday. I also moved it from the garage into the house, because of the heat, everything was good. The temp did go down 10+ degrees.

I am no help. I am not a hydro grower. I was interested in the photos of the roots. I expected to see a distressed plant with roots that looked like that.

Your plant looks healthy. Shows you what I know. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :vulcan_salute: :man_mage:

I must say I got a hell of a kick out of this! I was stressed, as this is my first grow, especially in hydro. I was relaxing with a bowl as I was posting for help. I was so happy to see a quick response. I have nearly blown a lung from your last response! Thank you! :victory_hand:

I put 1 ml of PH down and it brought it to 6.75. Why was I thinking PH needed to be 6.86?

I believe that the recommended pH for hydro is 6.0. The target for soil is 6.5.

Well It looks like I will be downing some ladies tonight! I feel like a dumb ass. I know exactly where I got that number. From calibrating the PH meter. :woman_facepalming:

My first grow was just one learning experience after another.

Here is a shot of my current grow at 38 days old. This is a Burmese 100% Sativa landrace.

This one definitely is. I swear I am smarter than I seem. I know each one will be a learning experience. I am here for it though! :victory_hand:

I was given a plant and it looked dead and had one half of a green leaf. The stem was hard and brown. It was in soil, I rinsed it it and put it in hydro and it has come back to life but has me a little stumped. It is now 5 inches tall and is growing sets of leaves at the bottom and has another branch growing from the side, but looks like it’s going into flowering stage?

Hydro is 5.5 starting range and allowing it to drift up to 7.0.

How I do mine. Not everyone is the same.
5.5 seedling-veg, 6.0-6.5veg, bloom 6.0-7.0

What line of nutrients are you using and are you using and hydroguard or Southern AG or u c roots?

It does look like you have a bit of a light leak problem into the buckets… Could try black duct tape to keep light out.

The white stuff on the roots is probably biofilm caused by bacteria and other microscopic organisms settling on the roots. You could try spraying them with a spray bottle and see if it washes off (don’t use to much pressure). If it doesn’t come off then leave it so you don’t damage the roots.

Aeroponic systems sometimes get it and they use hydrogen peroxide in the water to get rid of it. I don’t know the dose rates but there used to be a few videos on YouTube that showed aeroponic systems and some had dose rates. Otherwise Google search for peroxide dose rates in aeroponic/ hydroponic systems.

@LadyInTheCorner I just started dwc about 2 weeks ago and I had a similar problem starting. My water smells like mildew real bad and I had Brown slime and stuff in there so yesterday I filled up a bucket with water and peroxide and rinse the roots in it and then made a new batch of nutrients and added peroxide and put the plants into the new bucket and when I woke up this morning and smelled fine and water was clear. So maybe try that and start fresh water for them

Now I’m not sure if my problem is fixed but from overnight it seems like it is. But I believe the contributor to my problem was using tap water that I’ve left sitting out for too long and must have built bacteria up in the water. I don’t know much about dwc like I said I just started but I am just sharing my problem with you

I had just did the water change, and there isn’t an odor. It is weird. I think I will do what you said and see if that helps it. Thank you! :heart_hands:

Was just going to +1 the PH levels in hydro. 5.5-6.2 especially for seedlings. 5.5-6.5 for veg. 6.0-7.0 for flowering. Hope that helps.
