What happened to my seedlings

)
I don’t know what happened. We left the house for 2 hours. No one was here at the house. We came home and 3 of my seedlings were just cut off and laying there. If they were outside I would think a bird could have done it, but they were in the house. The stem is just sticking out of the dirt completely cut. So confused

Mice/rat maybe :man_shrugging:

There have been no signs of a mouse, definitely not a rat. I do live in an older house and we occasionally get a mouse, but no food is left out and these were in the window in my bedroom. Never had this happen before

Looks like they have just tilted over. I zoomed in trying get a better look at the stem but it seems to be intack still(correct me if im wrong)

Id try standing them up and adding more dirt around the base of the stem for support🤘

No they are completely cut off laying there

The one to the left you can see the stem sticking out of the dirt. The other 2 are cut all the way down to the dirt

At first I was thinking damping off, but to have all three do it at once plus seeing the plant laying a little bit away from the leftover stem rules that out. They are not even wilted yet so it had to have happened very recently, like 5 minutes before the pic was taken.
So someone intentionally cut them or a critter nipped them off. Cut worms will do that but again, all three at the same time? Does anyone else have access to your grow area?
A mouse may be the best guess. Mice dont drink water, they get it wherever they can and a nice soft seedling will do that nicely.

I had this exact problem and it was caused by a cricket. How did I know, because he was still in the pot. So crickets like weed.

@JR77 : DAMMIT ! It was probably some kind of bug , or a mouse, I’m sure that it was something good u were trying to grow, hey , soak some more seeds in Luke warm water, put them up in a dark cabinet in ur kitchen, and in 3 days you will see them starting to sprout !

Well I ordered more seeds (3rd time cause I had a couple die I put them out on the deck for too long too early) I’ve got glue traps all around the pots. Whatever it was I’m going to get it.

I concur with the get em! Rabbits dug my clones up and ate the roots.
Just couldn’t be happy with leaves.

First it was knats in the tent, then ants… now rabbits!
(do you know how hard it is to remove fly strip goo out of your hair?)

I got my Elmer Fud hat and shotgun all ready… “Kill the wabbit.”

Theres a garage on property and a HUGE rabbit hutch under it. I like rabbits as much as the next person, as they taste great. But this forum told me pepper fake soil and no more wabbit probs.

Waiting for other plants to get a little bigger before planting outside. I will be making a small chicken wire enclosure to stop da wabbits. It’s cool, I don’t want to kill the little guys, they help keep the lawn trimmed.

I have a trap.
I practice “catch and release”.
I catch them and tell them to leave my plants alone.
Then I release them.
Neighbor relocated 40 rabbits last year.
I now use metal 1/2 inch fencing for rabbit proofing my lilac clones.
