We are about 14 weeks into our grow and waiting for pistils to turn orange. Which normally start to happen around week 12 for us, so something is a little off. What is weird is these white, bulb-like growth on the bud, which looks to be at the base of the pistil. It is only on a certain strain, and it’s only the buds near the top, closest to the light. Any idea what this is and what is causing it? Is it a problem? Thanks!
How close are those buds to the light?
Kinda favors bleaching to me. Are you sure thats new growth or are those calyx just the wrong color?
Fox tailing or bleaching.
How close to the light?
Whats your DLI?
Thanks for the quick response. We have a fairly low powered LED light and they are between 12 - 24 inches away, which is closer than normal for those being around a foot away. They didn’t seem to be impacted so we let it go but maybe we’re wrong. There doesn’t seem to be any signs of much burning or bleaching. These white bulbs have been around for a few weeks now and seem to be getting bigger. I have never seen this and this is my 6 cycle. A new strain though.
Never seen that… I’d trust the fine folks of ilgm on this one.
How cool would it be if there was an albino gene for plants
It may just be a more sensitive strain to lighting.

Any idea fellas?
I just googled fox tailing and I think that’s it. We went from 12on/12 off to 10on/14 off about a week ago, but these were around before that. We were trying to stimulate the pistils to turn brown (a tip by a friend), because they seem to be doing nothing.
Can you smoke foxtails?
Based on the opinion I just received, I am 99% sure it’s foxtailing. I appreciate everyone’s help!
@Coolbake Some cut/trim them off.
Depends on the tricomes compared with the rest of the mature bud.
Foxtailing is more new white pistil growths. But if your appeased im good
Yeah, either way, I think it has to do with it being stressed/too close to the light, but it doesn’t sound like it will be harmful to consume, so I am content. If it starts to happen to the buds that are away from the light, I’ll be back, haha.
Yep, looks like that one is too close to the light. Still smokable.

edit: sorry @MoeVeg305 Herbie is Bob’s competition, if seeds for sale, I cant let it stay, its pretty educational so I left the link, a space here and there and ‘dot’ is well… dot
Have you researched this specific strain? Fox tailing doesn’t explain the coloring
This is pretty cool! We have seen where for whatever reason there have been globs of trichomes making the tips look white before, but this appears to show your calyx are white.
I don’t have an answer as to why that i can reference. My guess is something in the genetics that is brought out by something in your environment. Just like specific strains are known to show anthocyanin expressions, but they’re also more drastic expressions when temperature or other factors are manipulated. This would explain why it’s just the one plant, and maybe just the tops because they have more light intensity or temperature is significantly warmer or cooler in that part of grow space.
I cant remember where I read it but somewhere Ive read about Albinism in cannabis,Although its very rare and the whole plant would be white… …As far as the fox tailing and puffy white balls / bulb
…My outdoor Afghan Kush had that look to it…It was kinda cool to look at…
